Phantom pregnancy

Pnut has morphed from a sweet little playful girl to the Devil incarnate. She is still sweet with mum and dad but is snarling and snapping at poor old Fraggle and it is quite distressing for him. Our old girl used to suffer with Phantom pregnancies but all
we had with her was lactation. Pnut is a different beast. She is nesting. The Blue worm she has rejected since we bought it for her, has now become the centre of her universe and she is guarding it as thought it was her litter. She is NOT pregnant and this
Episode has made our minds up for us ; that she will be spayed ASAP. 

The question I ask is; what is the best way to deal with her? Leave her to get over it? Take the the blue wiggly away from her (this seems cruel)? 

I DO have experience with dogs but I have never come across THIS before.

    Having her spayed will help calm her, but ask the vet about the prospect of Urinary Incontinence, some like to leave it till after her first season to allow for hormonal balance and in helping to stop UI. Some vets have differing ideas, Cassie was done as
    a puppy and has very mild UI but also has Propalin daily which controls it.

    as far as I can tell UI is more common after spaying than we think particularly for certain breed's I took the decision not to spey my cocker furthermore regardless of the UI I am not happy to spey a healthy bitch even taking into consideration the alleged
    health benefits.

    just my opinion of course

    I tend to agree spk except that phantom pregnancy is so horrid for all.  But I wouldn't call that a healthy dog.  Difficult call but the ones I have sorted are happier dogs. UI would be a real downer.
