These people, or someone doing the same thing, approached us in a service station just north of Bordeaux in June.  An Irish man said he and his wife were travelling back to Ireland and their caravan with their belongings had been stolen and they wanted to
know if we could lend them some money.  We were having lunch in our motorhome and I didn't open the door, I opened the kitchen window to speak to him when he knocked.  I said we didn't carry any cash with us and he stormed away extremely grumpily.

This kind of scam is very common in big cities and I have been approached in London by very convincing individuals who claim to have lost their wallet and needed the train fare home.etc.

One attractive lady stood outside Paddington station opposite where I worked and would stop men with a sob story about her car being impounded and needing money to release it. After we had seen this happen more than once we stood to one side whilst she delivered
her lines and interrupted her saying something like ..."are you here again with the same story". She was not amused!

Tis a sad state of affairs but its life, these people will always find a way of extorting money from the vunerable. Why do people carry so much cash with them is beyond me, if we have 100€ between us they would be lucky.
