Truma Ultraheat - how to use it?
Hello, we are thinking of going for an 'autumn' break but are unsure how to use the heater - it is a S3002. Do we have to use it on both gas and electric, when I tried it just on electric it did not get warm - just the fan. Also, will this be sufficient
to keep the van warm.

Don't know what model van you have but ours has switches (on the side of our front bed locker) for (a) van heating, and (b) water heater. The switch for the van heater needs to be on.
Also, the gas/electric dials will allow you to select one or the other. You should then be able to select your temperature preference.
The fan can be switched on to blow without the heating temperature being altered.

For mine there are several parts that need to be in place...
For gas
Turn on gas, use the control on the top right of the heater to turn on and light the pilot light using the spark button next to the heating control. Look down through the slot at the front to see if it's lit. Hold down for a few seconds and release slowly,
set the heat to the desired power.For electric heating...
Make sure that the mains hookup is attached and working. Find the electric heater control. Mine is near the door of the van. It has 0, 500, 1000, 2000 written on it. Turn the dial toselect the desired heating output.
For blown air.
Use the control on the left side of the heater to control the blow air system and delivery heat around the van.
The blown air system works off the 12v supply to the van.
Note: I've heard that you can use both the gas and electric at the same time to increase the power of the heater. I've not tried it myself, and don't know it if would be needed.

You are sure that mains is getting to the heater? There will often be a separate switch (and/or fuse) often hidden in a cupboard/under bunks/etc. If the green light on the control switch is alight, then you DO have mains to the heater, as it is powered via a transformer on the control circuit board.
A very common problem with this heater is failure of one or more of the (3) relays on the control board. Very often these fail in such a way that the heater will only operate at 500W, whichever setting you select. On 500W it takes quite a considerable time until you can feel any heat. Replacing the relays is quite easy (and cheap) if you are used to soldering .... otherwise its £50-£100 for a new or exchange PCB.

Yes, a good point.,especially if the 'van manufacturer has fitted a remote sensor..........and cleverly put it in the side of the fridge enclosure...which of course gets warm

You can use the heater on gas and electricity at the same time, indeed our handbook suggests that you do just that to get the van warm quickly thereafter using electricity only. Our gas heater unit has and automatic setting for the fan using this sees the
fan speed increase with temperature .0 -
Bill we have this system on our previous van and I used to find the heating on electric warmed the van up better without the fan going.This did result in a colder washroom so used to leave the door slightly open.If you do use the fan make sure at least one
butterfly vent is open on the ducting.0
