Dog Vaccinations

I have a  Dog and he has his Passport all up to date .. What i want to ask is when you apply for a Pet Passport for the first time. Will the Vet ask to see your up to date Vaccination Certificate so he can put it down in the Passport. Am i right to think you cannot just assume he takes your word for it if you say your Dog is up to date with Vaccinations..If its not recorded in the passport you will not be able to take the Dog on the Ferry..  As i said My Dog is up to date and his passport is recorded ..
