Vienna

We are planning to visit Vienna when we go to Austria in May. i would like to see either a concert or the Vienna State Ballet while there.  Has anyone done this?  If so how far  in advance would I need to book tickets?   

Probably a silly question, will we have to have snow chains with us in May?
