85% Guide - Lets get some real facts
OK I have been towing for 27yrs within the 85% guide, twinaxles for the last 15yrs with hefty 2 tonne plus 4X4s.
Hving recently downsized my car somewhat illogically before my van I am am now towing at close to 100%. I was very cautious on the first outing but soon found to my amazement that my current car van conbo is the most stable I have ever towed with.
Now from observation on my travels I believe that 75% of all outfits exceed the 85% So surely we need some facts that reflect the reality of the situation on the roads
I would like to see a study of stability using the same procedure as the towcar of the year competition. Using the same car at 85%, 90%, 95% and 100% first on a single axle then on a twin axle, perhaps with some help from the experts at the University of
Bath.
Times have moved on with vehicle stability, the 85% guide is as far as I can establish is a number subjectively picked decades ago. It may well be correct. Could we persuade the Club to supervise a controlled study?
Any comments or support?
