Problem getting satellite tv with sky hd box
We are booked into a club site where the tv bollard connection is not working. As we were notified in advance we decided to splash out on a new satellite system costing £180. We opted not to include the receiver and instead took our sky hd box and card.
Once connected up on site the sky menu said no sidnal. We changed cables etc no joy. Friendly neighbour connected his free sat box to our dish and it worked therefore the problem seems to be that the sky box is not getting signal from the dish. Does anyone
have any suggestions - thanks

Thanks for your replies, our dish has twin LNB. We are new to this game and presumed the fact that our neighbour got a picture when we connected our dish to his free sat box, meant that it was pointing in the right direction to get a signal using our sky
box - is that not the case? - Thanks0 -
We used to take our home sky card and it worked well with a dish and box on the van, then they linked the card to the box so we took the card and the box, this was several years ago before the sneakey sky lot then linked the box, card and address together. Free
sat boxes are not sky hence your neighbours kit worked, you should get free sat on your box however.0 -

As the post above check you are not on Astra 1. If you are using Sky + it takes a few mins to get a signal. You only need both leads if you want catch up or want to watch recorded programs.Make sure your dish is geting a charge from your box or it won't function.
Have a try at home, less stressful.0 -
you can pick up a satellite finder quite cheap that uses a tone to assist you, as the signal increases the pitch of the tone increases, there are also compasses that you hold near the dish that will show you where to point for the satellite you are looking
for also use the services menu on your sky remote then scroll to signal as you are aligning the dish this will show you when you have the best signal0 -
I am currenty using 2 sky multi room boxes on site at the moment, no problem,
How would the sky box know where it was if it wasn't connected to a phone line?
Are you lined up to the correct satellite the code should be 0002 if not you are looking at the wrong satellite.
When you line your dish up , use your compass to line up a short length of wood or plastic on the floor , then place your tripod at the end of the wood or plastic (assuming you are using a tripod) . then line the dish arm up with the wood, connect your sat
finder and tune your dish in,That way the steel dish and the lnb doesn't upset the compass,
The last 3 times I have done it like that I have been staright on the satellite,

Thanks BB and Dorman12Q, very useful information.
Goldie when you are away for 3 months and you get bad weather, having TV to watch on those dark nights in winter can make a differance
Edit: Might give Sky a call to see what it would cost to upgrade our 'Freeview' Sky card that we've had for years, need to watch the pennies now we are offically pensioners

As has been noted on this thread, receiving Freeview does not mean that you will get Sky broadcasts! It is all about satellite dish alignment where I have struggled for several years. At the NEC last year I got an explanation from a dish vendor which made sense
to me. He used the analogy of a dart board, Freeview is the 25 wheras Sky is the bullseye, a smaller target within the confines of the 25.My solution was expensive in that I bough a roof mounted automatic dish. Whilst I am now missing an arm and a leg, I enjoy perfect Sky reception whilst in the caravan!

We use an old sky box and take the card from home. Never had a problem. We just point the dish south, then in small increments turn the dish anti clockwise. Ignore signal strength you have to get 002, then you are very close to locked ok. Never had to notify
sky and normally takes about 5 minutes. Ray.0
