Water Container Storage.

I have another little question. When storing my fresh water container inbetween outings. Are you supposed to store with the lid off or on. My Wife asked me if storing a water container with the lid sealed. Would it make the container sweat and thus start
to smell. So peeps, are you a lid off or on person ?  This is the $64.000 question.
