Travelling To Germany

We are going to Germany and a little confused if to book camp sites or use the stop over system, never been abroad before. We are going into Calais and would like to visit Bruge down to Geisenheim were we are staying for 4 nights on a camp site. We
have a fiat ducato motorhome. Any advice would be welcome
