Ireland - Ferry Crossings and sites

We're in the early stages of planning a 2 week trip to Ireland June 2015 from West Yorkshire.  We'd like to go to Dublin first, maybe another 2 sites then home.

Does anyone have any tips about:

1) The best ferry crossing from the North of England

2) Good sites near Dublin

3) Good sites within say 3 hours' drive of Dublin
