Battle Abbey (English Heritage)
Battle Abbey is a great value day out for the whole family.
View and BookNestled in the hamlet of Whatlington, Homeleigh Farm is a charming smallholding set within the rolling countryside of East Sussex. Just over a mile away, the historic town of Battle awaits, offering a delightful mix of good restaurants, cafés, and pubs serving locally sourced food, wines, and ales from nearby vineyards and breweries. Battle is also home to the iconic Battle Abbey, a significant landmark commemorating the Battle of 1066, and hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including the lively May Day ‘Jack in the Green’ celebration in nearby Hastings.
For outdoor enthusiasts, Homeleigh Farm is ideally situated near the 1066 Walk, a scenic route from Pevensey to Rye, with plenty of welcoming pubs along the way. The town of Battle is also well-connected by rail, with direct services to London in just over an hour, as well as connections to Tunbridge Wells, Wadhurst, Hastings, Eastbourne, and Brighton, making it easy to explore the region without the need for a car.
Train lovers will enjoy a visit to Tenterden, just a 30-minute drive away, home to a picturesque steam railway that can also be accessed at Bodiam or Northiam for a memorable day out.
Nearby attractions include the historic Bodiam and Pevensey Castles, the quaint towns of Rye and Winchelsea with their charming streets, artisan shops, antique markets, and excellent restaurants, and the vibrant beach resorts of Hastings, Bexhill-on-Sea, and Eastbourne. Hastings boasts its famous Old Town, while Bexhill features the De La Warr Pavilion with a wide range of live shows and entertainment. Just a short drive further, Brighton offers its renowned North Laines for shopping and the iconic Pavilion. For nature lovers, Beachy Head, The Seven Sisters, Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, and the National Pinetum at Bedgebury provide spectacular opportunities for wildlife watching and outdoor exploration.
Homeleigh Farm offers a perfect rural retreat, where you can unwind in a lovely setting while enjoying the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Feel free to pitch wherever you fancy, you're only restricted by the length of your hook-up lead!
