Not value for money
Hi we have just returned from a 4 night stay at your touring site in Minehead,
at £32.40 per night and two of the four days have not been told that there are tree surgery 25 meters from our pitch we would not of stayed, also the red gravel on the pitches have stained our carpets, who on earth decided to put that down, we will be having the carpets professionally cleaned and can you please tell me where I have to send the bill ,
Yours Mr & Mrs Bird.

I take it that you have started a conversation to the site directly and taken photographs.

Watching an agile tree surgeon is fascinating - we pay big money to Justin whenever he comes here at home. But if you didn’t want to watch at Minehead your options were to move to another pitch or go out for the day, but hope your carpet comes clean.

You must have known the prices before booking so I assume that you were happy with that and while the tree surgery and red gravel might have affected you I can't see how that's part of the value for money.
Different things affect people in different ways, 25 metres is a long way off to me and I would be at this time of year inside the caravan so any sounds wouldn't be that bad, also if it was I would shrug it off as essential work and be off for the day, actually we'd be out for the day anyway. As to the red gravel, again we don't have outdoor shoes on inside the caravan at any time of the year, but certainly at this time.

I assume the problem was noise if branches were being cut off. This can be very loud and would affect some people more than others. I do think the club should warn if this is likely to be a nuisance to those staying and given you the option of cancelling or possibly a discount. Without being there it is difficult to know just how bad things were so I cannot say how we would have reacted. We live near a motorway so are pretty noise tolerant and if it was just a few branches it would possibly have interested us more than been a problem, but site operators of all types should warn customers of serious potential disturbances.
Not seen the red gravel but that sounds to be a bad choice and could eave the club open to claims. Possibly in the short term the wardens need to advise new arrivals to lift their carpets, but who wants a cold floor in Winter.
The price looks fair though given the amount of electricity likely to be used at this time of year.

I have some sympathy. We had a trying holiday at Marazion one Summer, constantly mown around every morning, within a few feet of us sat out having breakfast, back in the days when every blade of grass longer than half an inch was anathema. I did politely have a word with the staff, and they left our pitch alone, but did the adjacent ones still. So we thought, we’ll go to a site with HS pitches for our Autumn break. Whitehouse Beach, October, only half a dozen on main part of site, quiet heaven. Then the tree surgeons arrived and we had two weeks of shrub/tree cutting with very noisy chainsaws😱 Hey ho, best laid plans. Late 90’s, we moved over to CLs as our first choice after that.
I am sure Minehead won’t have been that busy that a pitch change couldn’t have happened, that would have put some distance between you and the chainsaws. And we take our shoes off if it’s muddy etc…. It’s all a learning curve😁 We were given good warning about tree work when we stayed at YRP a few years ago.

This is a members forum where we discuss a whole wide range of of subjects, hopefully helping some people along the way. However as pointed out its not really a conduit to the Club's customer service department which has to be reached via the "contact us" button on the main website. I am not actually sure what the Club can do as it seems it has given notice of work onsite. As to the carpets I really think that is down to the individual, if you wear outdoor shoes in the van you are bound to drag in all sorts of muck from outside regardless of what surface you are on? For that reason we always had a fairly large extra mat (on top of the carpet) immediately inside the van to avoid such problems and give us room to change our shoes. You may find when its dry that most can be vacuumed off.

@DavidKlyne - re the mat, David - we do the same - even though our carpets are black! I wouldn't dream of going into the van with outdoor shoes on and that's why we almost always have an awning up - even if it's only the 220cm one we used last week and shoes/boots get left outside.
Re the price - I don't see it as unreasonable at all - especially as has been said above - at this time of year when electricity usage is bound to be high. The CS at Thornton le Dale we were on, have put their charges up to £30 p.n. (which I did think was a bit steep for a CL/CS!) - but we were 'let off' with £26 because we didn't use their facilities and we were the only ones there!
