Filling up at the Lorry Pumps

We have quite a long Set Up and I think the best option is to use the Lorry Ones.

Anyone had an issues?

Yes, pulled up behind an HGV at a Leclerc supermarket just outside Rouen a couple of years ago and waited for ages for him to fill his tanks.

There has been a thread on this before, you might find it useful.

Although when we had a caravan I never found it an issue, we could tow 300 miles on a full tank and rarely did more than 200 in a day. We always filled up solo.

Not 100% sure but think you'll find the HGV filler nozzle is bigger and the flow much faster than those at the regular pumps.

Do you generally do such long journeys that you need to fill up en route? I make the assumption that you are a car and caravan? I don't think I have ever filled up at a UK Motorway Service Station, perhaps because I tended to keep distance between stops to between 200/250 miles and would then go and fill up solo. Don't forget you can always look at filling stations, on and off the motorway on Google Earth and Street View which will give you a good indication of what pumps have the best access.

"Do you generally do such long journeys that you need to fill up en route?"

This is another reason why I am reluctant to change my present Touareg @DavidKlyne . It has a 100 litre fuel tank - unique to the now discontinued Escape (off-road) model. According to the on-board computer, that gives me a range of over 700 miles!! Probably about 300+ if towing which is far more than the range of this model of driver😀

I often use the truck pumps but as said above the flow rate can be high. Logical really as many trucks have very large tanks and want as quick a fill as possible. The high flow can cause blowbacks on normal tanks but careful use of the control normally prevent this.

Yes, I was about to post the same comment. My only experience was in France, at Ouistreham, where I accidentally stopped at an HGV pump and the nozzle would not fit in my car. However, having made some searches on the net, it seems that this may not be universally the case.
