Happy New Year!
Hello everyone,
As we count down the final hours of 2024, I just wanted to take a moment to wish you all a very Happy New Year. I hope this past year has been full of amazing adventures, unforgettable trips, and plenty of special moments in your caravans, motorhomes, and campervans.
Now, as 2025 is only a few hours away, it's time to get excited for the journeys to come. Do you have travel plans for the new year? Maybe a dream destination you’ve been waiting to explore or a weekend escape you’ve had in mind?
I’d love to hear about your upcoming adventures so please share your plans and ideas—there’s nothing better than kicking off a new year inspired by the incredible journeys of our community. ☀️🚐

@Rowena A Happy New Year to you too. We are still away in the caravan, as is usual for us but have no specific plans made for 2025. We will no doubt be touring again, using a wide variety of sites.…CLs, CSs, both Club's sites & THSs, and maybe even a rally too. Have you any plans yourself?

Thanks for your good wishes, taking my freebee in the Cotswolds because it is not too far from home and expect to make our usual trip to the west country in the autumn. No other plans with the motorhome yet but expect to cross the Channel at some point in the year and have two different holidays booked to travel further afield. Going to be a busier year than 2024.

@Richard1013 Welcome to the forum and good luck with the op. Seems to be an occupational hazard as you get older? I had a hip replacement 15 years ago and it was 12 weeks from op to first going away in the van. No doubt the physio's will keep you busy in between?

We will be using our free night tomorrow, as it fits in very well with the conclusion of our November through Christmas to the New Year trip. Much too early for us to book our next one, as we prefer waiting until just a couple of weeks or so before we set off.

At the moment, .our only booking is for Tredegar House (Newport, Wales), later in the month.... to use my free night...
I'm reluctant to book too much until my driving licence has come from the DVLA. I'm still driving under the Section 88 provision (or is it Section 80???), but I'd feel happier with the licence in my hand.....
@Freddy55 ..... it could depend on where you go for the midge count! We did Melrose Gibson and Stonehaven last July and not a midge to be seen! I could be wrong, but I get the impression that you are more likely to get midges in the West...??

@Freddy55 the west coast definitely gets more midge issues than the east coast. You could be lucky..I attract bitey things. Original Avon Skin So Soft is good, but ensure it's original. I apply it as my body moisture every day in the summer and last year was much better bite'wise My friend rarely gets bitten but eats marmite in some form every day. If you don't like marmite you could try vit b tablets. Get a good head start before your trip.

Best of all @Freddy55, stay away from still water and trees. Breeze and coast - good, lochs and shelter - bad.

@Freddy55 if you could possibly move your tour back a few weeks until around mid May you will have a lot better chance of avoiding the "wee beasties".

…..and you might find this site useful @Freddy55. It’s not active at present.

@Freddy55 It's very much weather dependent too, we were at Bunree in August and the first week it was very sunny and windy and no or very few midges, then it got damp, rained for two days straight and they came out in force after that. They sadly went for my middle daughter especially and we moved inland.

@nelliethehooker , unfortunately we’re kinda tied in as we are travelling with two other couples and sites are all booked, so it’s 🤞
