New Club Together
Obviously very early days but am I alone in thinking not so many active posters have have either joined or transferred over to the new Forum? I have seen a few new user names amongst the posters. Perhaps I have missed it but I don't think I have seen any any active publicity for the new forum. That might not be helped by the fact that the Club Magazine normal distribution has been a bit disjointed with the November/December issue being sent at a different time. I can see that maybe admin want to get things ironed out before pushing as even those of us who took part in the original testing are probably still finding our way. I also know its a quiet time of years but somehow thought there might have been a bit more excitement?

I made a similar comment not that long ago, @DavidKlyne. Looks like I was not wrong in my thinking after all. Thanks.

I would agree @DavidKlyne . It has always been quieter approaching Christmas. However, this year on some days activity has been more or less non existent. Currently it is showing 5 members inc myself online and 42 guests.

It did cross my mind that some might be confused by the need to have a separate log in from the main CMC site and perhaps gave up in frustration? Both Caravan Talk and UKCampsites are quiet so it could be just be the time of year but being a new and improved forum I was expecting more of a rush of traffic?

I have certainly noticed a lot more new names in the first few weeks but really is it any different to the old CT in terms of regular posters now?

And it would seem more activity this morning? I suppose unless people start new threads there won't be?

We will be talking a lot about the new Club Together in Club communications over the next few months so hopefully we will get lots of new members in the community. I for one am very grateful for all our members who have come over and I'm really looking forward to seeing how the forum grows and develops in 2025. 😀

I do wonder whether the problems that some posters have had in posting legible content, mainly due to system incompatibility it seems, could have contributed to a reduced membership presence. Why persist when it's so frustrating type of thing.
I feel that any new member posting will have come to either the old or new forum with fresh eyes and not be prejudiced but these new posters have either been completely new members or asking questions. The number and frequency of regular contributors are in my view down on the old forum. I can think of at least 10 regulars whom I have either not seen at all or not recently. In addition we are seeing some regulars persevering despite their obvious difficulties.
It does need a bit of a push from admin and also needs some quirks ironing out asap.

I was very confused about the separate log in at first and remain irritated by it. The criteria for password length is different and I had to use a different password (maybe everyone does, I am not sure). Whenever I launch the main website, my browser fills the password box with my password for the Discussions and I have to overtype it. Maybe I need to change some setting somewhere to prevent that, but so far I have just put up with it. I cannot for the life of me see the point of separate passwords, but, no doubt, someone will tell me.

@Graydjames I don't know how it's happened, but I am never logged out of CT, unless I choose to do so. So, consequently, I only ever have to use one log-in - i.e. to the main CAMC site and then I come on here via Club Together/ Discussions. I have checked my Profile and I can't see any option to stay permanently logged in - it's just happened. That's on my iMac.
On my laptop - a MacBook Air - it has gone one stage further and I don't have to log into either - I'm permanently logged into both sites. I have asked @Rowena if the 'techies' can provide an explanation but haven't heard anything back.
Since I use a password manager, I had to same problem as you to start with - being given the choice of two sites (main and CT) and since the log-in was the same (email address), I couldn't differentiate between the two and invariably got the wrong one. I got round it by changing the name (but NOT the log-in details) of each site so now one comes up with CAMC and the other with CT - although, as explained above, I never have to use the CT one.

Likewise for me. I open up the main site, I do have to login but my computer or google fills in the boxes and then click on CT where I do get the 'explore CT' box to click but then I'm without having to log in. Windows and google chrome.
And likewise I'm not sure how that happened.

If you look at your profile avatar ( the fourth in line at the top right hand corner next to the envelope) you can see a small box. I just don't bother signing out in this box and have bookmarked CT so I just click on bookmark and it opens to whatever page I've left CT on. Also bookmarked CAMC main site.

@Wherenext - aaah - got it, thank you - so - what this means is that by default - you stay signed in - unless you opt to sign out when you leave the site?????

@richardandros Yep😁 Enjoy Chatsworth.

It's slightly ironic that the forum requires a more comprehensive password than the main website? It is also quite unusual as far as forum log ins go. One would expect the log in the the main website to need a stronger password given the previous website outrage?

@DavidKlyne one thing that I have noticed with software and websites over the years is that whenever there is an upgrade or newer product/version then the password security protocols become stricter, a few years ago a mixture of letters and numbers would suffice but now it's those with 'at least one upper case, one special character…' and a certain length required too. And of course there's the one time passcode to your phone - I wouldn't be surprised if that comes in soon for here as well
The main website is a few years old now and maybe wasn't designed with such security is mind?

as i said previously when the new CT was rolled out "i have spent many years de-bugging computer software and i am really frustrated with CT so i have more or less given up posting, is there an idiots guide somewhere ? one good feature i seem to have that I dont think was available on the old version , is the return to where you previously left off when you return to a particular discussion, maybe you could also do this on the old version 😕

@Rufs There is quite a lot of info in the Welcome to the new Club Together thread. I think most of use have worked our way around the new forum by trial and error. I hope Admin don't mind me saying this but I expect even they are still getting their heads around it. Not quite sure why they went for Vanilla rather than say VerticalScope, the latter being a more conventional forum layout but it could be to do with the amount of control over things?

@DavidKlyne Yup it is not all bad , love the @ feature, not sure how long it will be before the server is full when people are uploading what look to be very large photies, as good as it is to see them, am using firefox on an HP laptop and it would appear a couple of previous posts i made just vanished into thin air, but it seems to be more stable now tks for info
