@Wherenext we tried to book a CS not far from our Christmas site which was on the other side of the motorway but further north however after 2 days there was no reply to my booking email so we booked a CL we knew near Kirkham, who replied overnight.
@Takethedogalong this is my third effort at editing this post as whatever I seem to type initially does not appear as intended and it gets gradually worse the more I try to correct it. Thanks but i think that it is something else that @Rowena needs to put to the IT people.
We woke to frozen cars and a rather cold but dry day. So far it has stayed fine and it doesn't look to be freezing at the moment. Best get this posted before I loose it again!😀

@nelliethehooker do you know you can edit a post up to an hour in Nellie? If you go to your last post, you will see a small circle with three dots in it, on the right hand side. If you click on this it allows you to edit your post.

Raining here, quite hard.
Pop up warning appeared several times on my phone today, latest 2015 saying significant snow for our village! If it does snow I doubt it'll settle.
Was rather chilly today but I've bought items to make newest grandson's advent calendar. Hadn't expected it to be a rushed job as I've had the actual calendar material since long before he was born! Won't worry littlest as he'll have no idea but his brother will ask questions... So if confined to barracks I'm ready. Not to mention a couple of Christmas cakes to make.
@Takethedogalong I'm intrigued "jeep on charge" is it electric? You need to be able to get to the top of that hill
I tried to get Tesco delivery slot yesterday afternoon, realised we were running low on some things. Nothing, 1 hour, priority, flexible or click and collect until the end of the week. Tried again late evening and could get them from Tuesday onwards. Opted for Wednesday in case weather disrupts travel. Never gave panic buying a thought 🤣
Stay warm and safe folks. @Wherenext look our plastic bag for foot that goes in leaky wellie

Any news @Oneputt on brothers? Best wishes.
Thanks for asking WN, Younger brother had a stomach op and is now undergoing a second transfusion. He thinks he will be discharged tomorrow!
Elder brother is still in hospital undergoing various cardiac testsI had my flu jab this morning so armed for another year🤣

@Bakers2 😁 No the Jeep isn’t electric, it’s a temperamental American Diesel monster that eats batteries occasionally.😡 If it is very cold, and it hasn’t had a good work out for a couple of days, it tends to sulk, and we noticed it was a tad sluggish turning over first thing this morning. It lives outside as well. OH put in a new alternator a couple of years ago, so we know it isn’t this, and we have a fairly new battery, but it takes a lot of oomph to kick it into life. We have a spare battery that we keep charged to jump it from if it does occasionally play up. It’s a lovely car, but I don’t think it’s enjoying life in England, would probably like to go home to say California where the sun shines🤣 However, it is brilliant in the snow😁

hope all goes well for your brothers OP

Same from us, as well @Oneputt . Hope they are soon fully recovered.
Have to say, I'm feeling a bit fed up (and that's being polite!). As you know, got back from dealers on Friday and all had gone well with the caravan service. Went into the van on Friday afternoon to read my Kindle, as I usually do (it's also my 'man shed'!), put the heating on and all was OK. Did the same on Saturday - heating was a dead as the proverbial Dodo. Not just failed heating elements, this time (and that's happened four times in the last six years) but nothing, zilch, totally kaput. Much cursing and swearing at the prospect of yet another trip to Cumbria at this time of year. Rang my friendly service Techy at home and he promised to ring Truma on Monday - which he did. Looks like it's some sort of failed temperature sensor in the boiler although it will require plugging into a laptop to diagnose exactly what's wrong - so it does look like I will be heading north again before long. I'm about to ring the Service Manager to see how we can resolve the issue but, all in all, I'm not impressed with the Truma heating. Such a disappointment because we love the van and it exactly suits our needs.

@richardandros how ****** annoying 🤬😡.
Hopefully Truma will apologise. Maybe offer part free of charge and travel costs. Sorry I've just woken up ........
No white stuff here, thankfully. Just 1c anx it seems to have rained all night, it started last evening.
SStay Safe and warm folks. Sorry @richardandros that was inappropriate in your case, but hopefully your house is warm and toasty.
Hopefully a day of sewing and pleasing myself once the dogs walked and casserole in 😃
@oneputt well that didn't work! Hope your brothers make good steady recoveries
2 -
@richardandros very annoying for you. Hope you can get things sorted quickly. I don’t think you will be heading North for a few days at least though…..we woke up to this…….
A proper Winter Wonderland🤩 Notice our Beech tree that insists on clinging onto its leaves very late. All the rest on the road have shed their leaves except this one. No gardening for me then today🤣
3 -
Sorry to hear about the heating @richardandros. Hope they manage to sort it quickly for you.
We're getting a little bit of snow here this morning @Takethedogalong. It's sticking a littke on the vehicles, plant pots and grass, but pavements and roads are normal. Looks like I'm not going up to storeage to clean the front of the caravan after all.... 😀😀

Snow here in MK. Quite heavy at one point but the roads are clear now so I assume it can't make up its mind whether to snow or rain! Need a few bits of shopping so will probably go to Morrisons in CMK as they have an under store car park, just in case!

Oh, I do enjoy this Forum😀 - thank you all for your kind comments. @Bakers2 - can't stop laughing at yours. Anyway, having tried in vain to get it sorted locally - certainly in time for us going away at Christmas - I've made an executive decision. Just rung the dealer and asked him to get me a new boiler which they can swap over in a couple of hours. Although it's a lot of money - considering what I paid in January for two new heater elements, it's not too bad and it should eradicate all the problems I've been having since day one (hopefully!) Service Manager even offered to fit it free of charge which was kind.
Just got to find the right day to go there🤔

No snow here near Perth, pretty cold though, frost has not lifted these last 2 days and can't see it lifting for another couple of days.
Livingroom window needs cleaning, the cat jumped up on the window sill all wet from the frost, then proceeded to walk up and down rubbing her nose on the window. Too cold to do it just now and the sun is shinning on it so good excuse to stay indoors.
My back and sciatica are slowly getting better, I can at least walk for a fair bit now. No limping or pain just a weak leg, still to master climbing stairs without leg giving way.
Had a de clutter of my kitchen cupboards at the weekend, the amount of equipment I had was unbelievable. All went on the local FB page and went straight away. Now need to go through my Christmas box and give that a good clear out. I used to decorate the house every year with lights and several floral displays. When the grand kids were small I also went mad with lots of other things that they loved but as the youngest is now nearly 15, I think its time to downsize to just a tree and table decoration, I will make a new one for this year.
OH is at the Men's shed this morning they are making Christmas decorations for the village display. He has been tasked to make a huge snowflake out of wood and metal, I think he is enjoying it.

I think you've been lucky to escape the sow in Perth @Tammygirl. Our daughter Ruth has had snow up on Lewis... 😀.... and we've had a sprinkling here in Polesworth.

Snowed all night here and still snowing at 9 this morning. Thankfully stopped and a slow melt under way. Not a great dea as you can tell by the amount on the bird bath, about 5". Hope it all goes otherwise roads getting out of cul-de-sac will be an ice rink. They never bother gritting our road. Years ago we had a blizzard, a foot of snow, so the snow plough was sent. They cleared the road but pushed all of the snow onto the pavements and driveways.😡 Idiots.
Sorry to hear of the boiler problem @richardandros We had a problem with our Truma boiler. Long story short the dealer stripped the boiler down, found out they'd ordered the wrong part so put it back and tested it and noise problem disappeared!
@Bakers2 OH has newish wellies, a size smaller than mine so I borrowed them. Tight squeeze but wasn't walking far. Got back. Sat in garage on MiLs trolley trying to get them off for 15 minutes before OH rescued me.🤣 Guess who'll be buying wellies soon?
@Tammygirl Sorry to hear about the sciatica. Mrs.WN sends her sympathy and empathy as she is afflicted from time to time with it, mainly on her lower back. Hope things improve.

@Wherenext beautiful photos. 🤣 about the wellies, a plastic bag over your sock would have saved that issue! Snow plough attention to detail sounds great. I used to moan about lack of care for pedestrians. Our road was a bus route and so there were odd grains of salt reaching the pavement. But no bins of salt. Tge no through road was dodgy pavement and road. Last bit of my journey was through a car park. Again ice rink. Despite living in the city, I had been known to walk the mile and a bit to work with crampons on my walking boots. Pavements like ice rink 😡. No one seems go think less falls, less NHS calls, less working hours lost.....

Hi WN. I was trying to reply and comment on a few posts but unlike the previous site, when you press quote, a number of comments from different people come up so I am not sure how I comment to just one person. I suppose we will get used to the new site but I was definitely not happy to have to come up with yet another password and having to have so many passwords is why I dislike computer sites, mobile phones and APPs so much. My computer will save them for me but it is on its last legs so I am worried as to what happens to my passwords when I buy another computer? As you may notice, I am not very tech savvy at all. Whilst on the subject of tech, what do I do with my electricals? I went to our local tip on Friday and although they have a place for old TVs, anything else they just throw in a skip, even if it still works and if it doesn't surely someone can take them apart and recycle the spare parts.

Can't do the sock thing @Bakers2 as old wellies taken to the tip.
We will probably have to pay another visit to the Grosvenor Garden Centre on outskirts of Chester on the Duke of Westminster estate as MiL has decided she does in fact want the baubles she saw there last week! Crafty so and so.😎 We decided that the Duke probably needed his finances boosting after his recent marriage which must have cost him a pretty penny. You know how hard up the aristocracy can get. Mind you I'll be stopping off at the cheap garden centre on the way there for the wellies.😁

@vbfg In order to reply to one person just like I am doing then use the ampersand key which is @ It sits above the number 2 on my machine. Then without leaving a space put the first couple of characters in. You should then get a selection of possible recipients. Press return on the one you want and hopefully the name will light up in red.
If you want to quote someone then use the "Quote button on their post and it be put in the comment box. Hit return and you can comment underneath it. By the way you get an hour to edit on this new setup.
Hope this helps. Can't answer your electrics but we use Flintshire refurb who take them in and they fix them up. It's council run.

Probably shouldn't say this but I keep a manual record of passwords as well as the computer storing them. Some of them seem to go back before such things as password manager! I should add they are not financial websites in any way.
I have notice that some people are using the @vbfg tag now rather than quotes. It does make it clear who you are replying to. (Just use the @ button and the first few letters of the user name and it will appear in a drop down list)
With regard to old electrical appliances it might depend on how your local authority dispose of such things. It costs so much to send things to landfill now that I expect there is a degree of recycling somewhere along the line. Its not worth repairing small appliances due to the labour costs as you end up more than you do for a new appliance. I remember when you could get replacement elements and seals for a Russell Hobbs stainless steel kettle, but suspect those days are long gone. Even if something like a kettle still works someone would have to test it before passing on. Local Facebook Groups are good for giving things away.

@vbfg - I suppose we are lucky in East Yorkshire having a pretty switched on local authority when it comes to recycling. We have a skip at the tip for all household electrical and electronic items and I understand they recover precious metals etc. Plus - if you have anything that's working, they have a special container from which the items are then donated to a local Hospice - who check them over before resale - to generate funds.

@DavidKlyne I also keep a copy of my passwords, but I use an app called ewallet to do this..... it's stand alone and doesn't link directly to sign-in pages... you have to copy and paste, should you need.
The @ tag is very useful, but it does require folk to enable the correct notifications..... I'll see if I can copy a post here, in a moment for anyone who doesn't yet have it enabled....
Here goes:
"To make it so that you get a message when you are tagged:
- Click on your profile picture right at the top of this page. Your profile info opens.
- Click on 'Account & Privacy Settings, just underneath your email address
- Right at the bottom of the page that opens, you get the Badges section. Just above this there is 'Notification Preferences'. Click on it...
- The screen that opens out give lots of options to tick. The one to look for is under Posts.... make sure you tick 'I am mentioned'
You should then get emails to say 'you have been mentioned', everytime someone tags your name.
If you've got that far, it may be a good time to look at the other boxes you can tick to update what you would like to get emails for.
You will notice that for each preference there are two boxes.... one for 'pop-up' and one for email. I've enabled both, but I've not yet received a pop-up. I get all the emails though."
Hope this helps.

Yes, large is way too big for me, I usually opt for medium or small. There are some beautiful photos from your neck of the woods on the news WN, snow everywhere.

No snow here in Glasgow, but down to -3 overnight and has not got above zero all day. Gas bill will be huge!
Still working on those curtains off and on, with woodturning for respite. Curtains just might be finished by Christmas at this rate.DD has been called for jury duty, started today. She has been told it will likely last till December 20th, which is not good. She normally works from home a 4.5 day week (on 90% wage) and has Fridays from 12.30 for shopping, domestic stuff and time with the boys, but now she will be out from 9 till 5 every day, so we will be engaged for childcare on Fridays too. Will also leave me less time for preparing for upcoming craft fairs.
OH had her DVLA eye test yesterday, did not too bad so hopefully can keep her licence meantime.

Thank you for the replies. I will have a go at practicing tomorrow. Unfortunately, we don't seem to have any recycling companies in our area and I don't subscribe to facebook. I will contact some of my ex work colleauges as maybe they will know of somewhere locally that picks things up to recycle them. I hate wasting anything that can be useful to others.

No snow here but very heavy rain all night and a bitterly cold day today. Lovely photos of the wintery scene. I was on duty at the Cathedral shop this afternoon and was glad I was well wrapped up. Sorry to hear about your sciatica @Tammygirl I know how miserable it can be and hope it soon clears up. Thank you for the update on your brothers @Oneputt A worrying time for you. Are you waiting for better weather @nelliethehooker before you head off again? Take care on the roads everyone and try to keep warm.

@vbfg there that hasn't highlighted.
You may well have other recycle groups in your area. Try Google free cycle and similar.
One day all items will be recyclable and made that way so the headache is for the producer manufacturers not the consumers. Especially things like packaging. Don't get me started......
