Wolf Hall Series Two
PLEASE NO SPOILERS
Anyone else watching the latest series of Wolf Hall (The Mirror and the Light)? We thoroughly enjoyed the first series, broadcast in 2015, and have managed to visit quite a few of the filming locations since then. It’s a true feast for history lovers, and a very good adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s wonderfully different telling of the Henry VIII/Thomas Cromwell story. The acting, story, costumes, locations, sets are all outstanding. We binge watched the first series again, and are now enjoying the latest episodes of series 2, which goes out on the BBC on Sunday evenings. Highly recommended for those who enjoy historical drama.

Agree no spoilers but I think that we all know what happens.😁. I’m finding it easier than the book, read Wolf Hall but slow reading of The Mirror and the Light, I got half way through and then found an easier read so I digressed. Finding this programme much easier to follow than the book. The only small criticism is that I personally believe that Cromwell must have been a more assertive and louder character than Mark Rylance portrays in order to be who he was and to get all of Henry’s orders carried out.

We are waiting until the full series is available on IPlayer before bingeing on it. Can't do with waiting a week between episodes when there are so many in more characters.
I have read the whole series, but it was a while ago and I've read many more books since then, so I might have to watch the first part before starting on the new series.

RRealised We could have done with a recap, might see if 1st series available on Iplayer.

I would agree with watching the first series as a bit of a reminder. I enjoyed Wolf Hall the book, found Bring up the Bodies a bit harder to read. I bought the unabridged audiobooks, and have to say, really enjoyed the stories this way. I have The Mirror and the Light on audiobook as well. I’ve done a lot of reading around biography’s of the Tudors and their court, some really interesting characters. Got an excellent biography of Cromwell. Another interesting character was Jane Boleyn. She was married to Anne Boleyn’s brother George, survived his downfall, and actually came back to court and served Anne of Cleves and Katherine Howard. It’s written by Julia Fox, just called Jane Boleyn, worth a read.
Love the many locations. Series 1 is on the iplayer at the moment.

Hmm,🤔 still enjoying this, but I think it’s deviating from the book a little. Main cast are simply superb, but I am struggling a bit with some of the peripheral casting as well. Timothy Spall has nasty Norfolk to a tee. Gorgeous costumes and locations, Haddon Hall popped up in episode three.
