Safefill - odd behaviour

I have just been to fill up my two Safefill bottles - attended service at Maple Garage, Sproatley, just outside Hull.  Been going there for years.

First one - 5kg - was empty but would only take 6 litres before it stopped the pump.  According to my spreadsheet, it should take 9.8 litres from empty.

Second one - 7.5kg - wouldn't take any gas at all, even though I have used it for about 2 hours from full to run the heating.

I've read in the past about sticking valves and poking the handle of a wooden spoon into the open valve - but since I don't know what I'm doing and don't want to take risks with something as potentially dangerous as gas bottles, I wondered if anyone could advise me what's happening and what to do. Thanks.

Richard

On the few Safefills I've seen you can see the liquid gas level.  Do the levels look okay?

Thanks LLM - in practice it's a bit difficult in daylight - best to do it when it's dark and shine a torch through from the other side.  I'll try that later.

Just can't understand why the 5kg one cut off after 6 litres when it should hold 8.9 from empty - and it was definitely empty when I took it to be filled.

My best guess it's either faulty valves - (strange it's both of them) - or - I'm wondering about the pressure of the pump at the garage - bit of a long shot.  There was a car filling up before me and that seemed OK.

Okay.  The fix by tapping the non-return valve does work in most instances if it's stuck but yours clearly was not as you had at least some fill.  If you want to give it a try instruct the OH how and then retire to your local until he or she has completed the task 😉 😂.

Could just be the pump. A while back trying to fill our Gaslow system, I couldn’t get it to start although it was connected correctly. Reversed onto the other side and used the second pump and no issues. Reported it to the attendant who reckoned other fillers had not reported a problem.

When I was trying to fill mine the pump wouldn’t start, guy came out of the garage and reset(?) the pump and it worked fine
