European breakdown cover
I am taking my motorhome to France and have cover from my LV insurance with Britannia for European breakdown cover.
Has anyone used Britannia and is it as good as Red Pennant?
RP is £270 for 31 days and for travel and European cover and I don't mind paying but if they use the same system as Britannia I don't see the point in doubling up.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

They may use some of the same agents? For example it wouldn't surprise me if they use ADAC in Germany for recover. Whether they would be as hands on as Red Pennant is difficult to say. In all the years we travelled abroad we only used Red Pennant. Had to use them a couple of times but only once for a breakdown in Germany which was quickly resolved fortunately. The other time was with a door problem on my motorhome for which we worked out a fix via our UK dealership which RP contacted on our behalf. Unfortunately we never know how good a service is until we have to use them.

I would check the wording carefully as the cover may be different, even if the same agents are use if that is true. They will certainly operate to their own guidelines and I assume from a different office so how they deal with claims might vary.
Having said that provided the Britannia policy looks as good then I would take it as they have a decent reputation. Do check the detail however. Possibly the big thing is what happens if the vehicle has to be repatriated, or even scrapped. In those circumstances can you continue your holiday and how do they get you home? If any repair takes longer than your stay what happens in that case?
You will still need a normal holiday policy for the trip.

“How do they get you home?”
In my experience you get yourself home - by plane, train, ferry or hire car - all four are straightforward - but if you have to get a dog back then it can be really tricky unless the hire car can be taken cross channel - and that’s rare.

As a member of Boundless (well worth joining if you can for many benefits) I get an excellent discount on insurance products with LV=. I cover our MH travels with them on an annual basis using the UK and European Assist grade with personal cover which then extends cover to me and my wife in any vehicle here. Having our house and car insurance with LV= that provides multiple discounts. The cost of the annual breakdown cover, including European cover, coming out at just over £101.

I agree with David - you don’t know how good a service is until you have to use it.
we broke down (caravan wheel bearing) last year. We were with Green Flag. The service was excellent but their agents in France were OPTEVEN.
It might be worth asking who their European agents are. If they use OPTEVEN and are cheap then it might be worth going with them.
