Club Site: No bins? No recycling?
My wife and I have just returned from a 9 night stay at North York Moors CC Site.
We have stayed there on many occasions over the last 20 years or so and have always loved the site.
This time, August2024, we found that all of the bins at the service points had been removed. My wife asked the site warden what was happening and was told that they're conducting a 2 year trial where there are only industrial size bins at one point on the site.
These 2 bins are, if you're pitched furthest away from reception, a good ten minute walk each way. No fun in the rain. Furthermore there is no re-cycling of waste, you have to throw bottles, cans, paper and food waste all in the same bin.
We all have grown used to recycling over the years and it seems wrong that the Caravan Club has decided not to do it.
It used to be nice to be able nip out of the van and put some smelly left over food in the nearby bin, bagged of course, so your caravan didn't smell of food all the time.
I think this is an awful thing for the Club to do, it takes away from the pleasure of staying on these sites and, for some less mobile people, could be physically challenging.
The warden mentioned that they use an awful lot of plastic bin liners for the dustbins. OK don't use liners, I'm sure we all put our waste in bags anyway?
I hope the Club have a change of mind on this because, apart from anything else, it's not very ECO friendly, something which the Club professes to champion (page 26 Sept 2024 Club magazine)

There are several other threads on here about bins.
With regards to recycling, we need to remember that commercial collections are very different from our domestic collections at home. Also, councils handle recycling in different ways. Some have all the rubbish in together and it’s sorted later at the depot.
Here’s the latest thread on bins. Others are available.
