Hi everyone,

I'll be finishing my archaeology degree in Truro and I'm looking for a pitch to park up my motorhome long stay and will travelling back and forth in my car, preferably nit far from a rail link to Plymouth or Truro. Anyone got any ideas, thanks, Simon Colverson

Can you define "long term"? If you mean a few weeks, there are numerous sites to choose from but if you mean months/years, it’s a different story and most sites can’t afford to breach their planning permission by allowing such stays. You're no doubt aware of the number of sites in the Truro area and also probably aware that open all year sites are rare in Cornwall.

You can check on UK Campsite for seasonal pitches but I’m not sure if it’s seasonal you want.

As an aside, it’s not a great idea to park a MH without using it regularly. You don’t want to find cracked tyres and a seized engine when you eventually want to move it.

    Good hunting.

My grandchildren who know about these things say that instead of the motorhome on a campsite they would rent a room in a shared student house in the city and look for a part time evening or weekend job to offset the cost.

What i mean by long term is probably a term so about 10 weeks, i would be staying in it every week for 2 to 3 days so obviously would occasionally start it and most probably use the motorhome if I'm on a dig in Cornwall.

I also have grand children so i definitely won't be sharing a house or working evenings or weekends as I'm retired.

It sounds a good scheme to use your MH to get to digs and give yourself somewhere to put your feet up while you’re there.

It may well be that a seasonal pitch will give you what you need for 10 weeks or so and I suggest you do the search I suggested earlier and ring a few possibles. I’m happy to give you my opinion on anything you come up with if I can but, with living here, I obviously don’t use sites very close to home which is why I’ve not suggested anything specific.

I wouldn’t dream of suggesting you get a job and I’m sure you’ve thought of possible alternatives for your living arrangements 👍🏻🙂.

Edit: You could check out this site. It’s on the edge of Truro and looks good from driving past.
