Mayday Premium question

Our vehicle has broken down at Ramslade CAMC site and needs recovering back home.  We are booked on the CAMC site until Sunday and unfortunately nothing is within walking distance and we both have mobility issues.

It is our understanding that with Premium you get a hire car in these sort of circumstances.  I am not sure if they are supposed to drop off a rental car at the site for us to use for the next 2 - 3 days and whether they will allow us to use the vehicle to travel home which is about 200 miles distant.

We have never been in this situation previously so this is all new to us.  Can anyone that has been in a similar predicament advise?  Thanks.

Oh surfer I'm sorry to read this.

I think the best thing you can do is contact Mayday to find how they handle such things. They are the only ones who can give you a definite answer. Put your case to them.

I hope it doesn't spoil your holiday too much, but that's a glib statement. Sorry.

Feel embarrassed to say this, but I had a lot of difficulty trying to understand the lady yesterday due to her strong accent.  I had to keep asking her to repeat things, but at the end of the conversation i was still not clear on what would happen.  I add that the lady was very helpful, but her accent was too strong for me from the southern W Midlands.  LOL!  smile

If that happened to me, and it has, I don't put the phone down till I'm absolutely sure of what is to happen and takes notes as well. I would also request an email/text to be sent.

    Hope it get sorted

    Looking at our Mayday Premium policy on CAMC website, it states;

    Dual recovery

If you break down on your way to a site, or during your stay and your car can't be fixed we'll take you to your destination and back home again after your holiday

We are on site in Paignton and our next destination would be Christchurch, but Mayday have stated that if they take us to Christchurch they will not collect us from the site to take us home?  If we cancel that site we are over £300 out of pocket.

    The same policy also state;

    Extra care

Your choice of car hire or alternative travel expenses (up to £100), or alternative accommodation up
to five nights whilst awaiting repairs, to a maximum of £600 per breakdown, and even an emergency driver if the main driver is incapacitated.

Mayday did mention that Enterprise car rental would contact us, but nothing so far.  Maybe I have misunderstood the wording, but hope someone can clarify especially on the Dual recovery part?  Thanks.

Sorry about your problem but unless the repair can be done today I would go home .Taxi to Totnes station, then the train. Tell Recovery firm to bring the car and caravan back without you. Claim for expenses later.  Good wishes.

We pay for Mayday Premium for a reason and part of the contract is a hire car which has now been organised by Mayday.  Call came through while typing the post.

Pleased that you are getting sorted

You don't say what has happened to your car and why it can't be repaired locally, or indeed how you know what the problem is?

As regards your potential £300 loss that would be covered by your travel insurance if you have any.  But I suspect that you are like most of us who don't bother when travelling in the UK; I certainly don't.  You have therefore "self insured" and the loss is yours.

The car has a fault code P24F3-00 "Reductant tank temperature / fuel temperature correlation". Here is an explanation.  https://www.obdiicode.com/what-is-obd-ii-code-p24f3-reductant-tank-temperature-fuel-temperature-correlation/

Unfortunately Indy garages cannot get software updates so do not want to do any repairs.  It needs to go back to main dealer as closest dealership to our present location cannot fit us in until Sept.  The dealership local to us can do it for 15th July.

My understanding is that Mayday will only provide a hire car for 72 hours. Is that sufficient?  I would still choose to go home by train and leave the outfit where it is to be recovered later. Riding long distance in the repair truck is not fun. Good.wishes.

The hire car is mainly for us to get home.  The extra days that we will be using it down in Paignton is at our own cost.

    I hope I'm not ging off-topic, but -

It sounds to me as if the system is saying the Adblu is too cold? Which in the middle of summer would suggest a sensor has failed or a wire has fallen off!

You are correct it is the difference in temperature between the tow liquids and the sensor puts the car into limo mode.  These emission controls are the work of the devil, but the consumer has to pay for them.

Just to add, we had to go and fetch the rental car from their depot which was about 10 miles away.  So had to get the bus, then the train and finally a very slow walk from train station to depot as both of us have mobility issues.

However we are now both home, caravan is in storage even though it suffered some damage while in transit (cable from recovery vehicle to caravan dragged on ground) and car is now parked outside home waiting collection to be taken to dealership next week.

Sorry to hear/read all of this.

As an aide, have you checked with your own vehicle insurance.  as you may have cover for a hire car when yours is in the garage for repair.

    Only an idea!

    Good luck with all

Thanks we are lucky that we have a second car so not need for a hire car while ours is in the garage.  Mayday / Greenflag collected it yesterday from our residence to take to the dealership.  Mayday paid for the first 10 miles and we had to pay the balance as the dealer is 62 miles away.

However I am querying the Dual recovery which states "If you break down on your way to a site, or during your stay and your car can't be fixed we'll take you to your destination and back home again after your holiday."

We broke down during our stay at Ramslade and our destination was Back of Beyond in Christchurch and then home.  Mayday could take us to Back of Beyond, but then we would need pay for the recovery from BoB to our residence in the West Midlands.  It was cheaper to lose the £365 we paid BoB than pay the recovery fee for car & caravan back to WM!

It seems that to us the Dual Recovery is badly worded or misleading? Maybe it is just us that are reading it wrong?  Just to add we cannot fault the actual service with the breakdown from Mayday as it was excellent.
