Elddis faiure to provide parts for warranty repair

Two years running my 2019 Elddis Affinity 462 has had damp problems from windows. On both occasions, obtaining parts for repair has been a problem.

The first was above the front window, and it was a couple of months before the repair was completed due to delays getting the parts (not helped by the dealer closing for a few weeks over Xmas and New Year.) I - just, with hours to spare - managed to get it back, unfixed, before that seasonal closure so I could use it, then had to take it back once parts were available.

This time around, damp was coming from a rear side window. Again, I took the caravan home while waiting for parts and the seasonal closure. Parts eventually turned up from Elddis after two months, so I returned the caravan to the dealer for it to be repaired. I'm still without it another two months later. Elddis sent the wrong parts.

Damp ingress in recent caravans and motor homes seems to be a continuous problem, along with parts availability. My brother just got his fairly Bailey back after an extensive damp repair (and a long wait to get it done,) and a neighbour now has damp inside his fairly recent Burstner motor home.

This seems to be a dirty little secret of the caravan/motor home world, which no-one seems to discusss. Despite all the fuss about fancy construction techniques (Elddis' SoLiD for example) they all seem to be rubbish, and as for getting parts from Elddis, I just wonder what my legal recourse is.

    What parts were you waiting for? If the leak was from the windows it is usually just a case of resealing them and the materials to do this are readily available. I have a theory that the reason many are experiencing damp problems is because of the state of the UK roads and the excessive shaking leisure vehicles are getting these days. It doesn't help either when we are experiencing more and heavier rain of late.

    The parts we are waiting for are the interior panels which I assume are waterlogged. Elddis don't stock them and are estimating May 20th for to get them manufactured. They have implied that this is because my caravan is too old (at 4 years and 4 months old.)

    Getting my 2019 Elddis repaired is taking for ever. Last year around February I checked the van in the storage unit and discovered not just damp but water in the van at the front. Took it to my service people who reckoned it was circa £15k of work and they would not do it as they felt Elddis would be reluctant to pay them the full cost. Took it to another repairer who basically said the same.

    I then took it a couple of hundred miles to the supplying dealership on 28th June who examined it and submitted a warranty claim to Elddis. It took until 11th August for Elddis to agree to a warranty claim and then Elddis ordered the parts which did not arrive at the dealership until just before the Christmas shutdown. The repairer contacted me on 5th January with the earliest they could start the repair being 28th May. Apparently they are snowed under with warranty work as well as a shortage of trained staff.

    I solved the leak problem which was the failure of the seal between the top of the front window assembly and the roof, white gaffer tape sealed it up and stopped water ingress.

    There was a secondary problem spotted by the repairer in June. The mastic seal around the light above the door was gone and water getting in and running down the inside. This too was a gaffer tape fix.

    I had the van serviced yesterday and the damp inside is slowly drying out but they have reported some new 'splits' on the roof. Gaffer tape again I think.

    I did purchase a full Protec cover last year and intend once the repairs are done the cover will go on over the winter to at least give me peace of mind that freezing conditions and winter snow and rail will not get into the van.
