Report of a sighting of another potential returnee, with an Osprey seen yesterday at 2:30 on the nest at Threaves!

Any news on the Brenig Ospreys? Some will recall that appalling act of vandalism enacted by idiots a couple of years ago. Let’s hope for better things this year here and across the UK and an improved enlightenment and tolerance towards raptors in our general public.

No Ospreys yet at Brenig, micky, but quite a few other visitors!! Here's a link if you want to follow the nest news.

Brilliant news, yes they have returned, only southern England breeding ospreys.👍
It appears that translocation projects do work despite the objections by some!

Thanks for the link, micky.
Today's arrival is at the Loch of the Lowes, where the male, Laddie, came in at 16:38 to join his mate, so another pair in place.

At Pont Croesor, the second nest at Glaslyn, the female (014) of the pair arrived.

Lots of action over the weekend, starting with the arrival for the first egg of the year, to the pair at Manton Bay, at 15:58 yesterday.
At Keilder, the male UV arrived at Nest 5A at 06:40 on the 30th, at Nest 4 both 69 (m) and Mrs 69 had arrived by the 26th.
At Clwydog, his home water, Blue 496 (2021) visited Nest 2.
At Glaslyn main nest, Aran arrived 16:58 on the 30th, and the nest was intended by 372 (2012), a Scottish bird who was transposed to from Poole. At check that nest, at Pont Croesor both Z2 and his partner arrived on 29th.
At Loch Archaig the female Dorcha arrived at 14:35 on the 30th.
At Dyfi the female Telyn, 3J, arrived at 19:29 on the 25th, and her mate Idris arrived at 09:44 on the 30th. The nest was also intruded by a male N0(2017) born at Foulshaw.

The male Osprey 06 was seen feeding at the R Gwash Trout Farm (Rutland) on the 25th.

There are two eggs now on the next at Manton, but none recorded at any of the other nest. There has been quite a lot of coming and going at the Kielder nests but so far only two pairs are in residence.
In total so far at the named sites there are 7 pairs in England, out of 19, 6 in Scotland out of 12, and 5 in Wales out of 10, but there are also a number of other Ospreys who are intruding at some of these nest sites. However not all of the 41 name/numbered sites were occupied by pairs last year.

A third egg was laid yesterday at the Manton Bay nest, but no report of any others yet. There are still quite a number of nests without the pairs from last year although there are a fair number of single Ospreys around.

Good news in that Brodie and his mate Asha are back at Loch Garten, and at Balgarvie Loch the male KR3 has returned to join his mate, an an unringed female know as Mrs BF.
At Llyn Brenig, the resident female LR6 has not arrived but her mate LJ2 is sharing their best with another female 372, a 2021 chick from Scotland translocated to Poole.
Not such good news at Manton Bay, as the female osprey, Maya, does not appear to be full fit, having some trouble breathing.

Fantastic news there Nellie, what a long way we have come since those bleak days we can remember when these birds were persecuted by the uneducated, the ill informed and ill tolerant. I’d love to see these birds return to estuaries all around England. Unfortunately the state of our inland waterways and coastal reaches are so dire now that the chances are slim to say the least.

I agree micky, there are very few places in England where they can nest and breed with impunity. There was a report earlier this week which stated, I think, that there are about 200 breeding pairs in Scotland!!
However saying that there is good news from Cumbria, as the pair at Roudsea Woods have returned and appear to be sitting on egg(s).
More news from Scotland is that the nest at Loch of the Lowes now has it's first egg of the year which was laid at 10:48 today, 21 days after the pair arrived, the same as last year, and a 2nd egg was laid at the Loch Arkaig next at 05:55 this morning.

I think it’s more a case of ‘they could nest with impunity’ given a fighting chance from ‘us’. We have pushed too many species to towards extinction and some to extinction in the UK through ‘our’ own selfish actions. The Osprey projects are a fantastic example of what can be done. Red Kites, Beavers, White Tailed Eagles, Storks and Cranes too. Many more species and their habitats, both flora and fauna could be included in our efforts. What I find mystifying is that a couple of decades ago there was real hope for our rivers. Now we hear almost daily about the appalling state of the vast number of our rivers, these being pretty much all polluted to death with excrement and deliberate or thoughtless chemical waste.
