Borrowdale - No shop or squirrel food for sale

Hi everyone- for those of you lucky people booked into Borrowdale site, please note that there is now no shop at reception. As a result, no squirrel food is for sale. All feeders including the ones at reception are empty. We only saw one this week on a feeder that a resident had filled with his own hazel nuts.
Please keep this vital population sustained by taking some squirrel food from your home or get some from Birds Bistro at Penruddock on the way here.
If you see a grey squirrel on a feeder, please stop feeding as greys (sadly they are around) spread the pox to reds and feeders are a place it can spread (harmless to humans). Please pass any sightings of greys and reds to Keswick red squirrel group on Facebook. I have contacted the CMC and May contact the BBC.
By the way, with there being no shop, us humans are also at a disadvantage so please stock up before coming here. It is a gem of a spot.

Sadly you are right, this is the advice given by those who know better than many of us regarding squirrels.

“It is important that the grey squirrels are trapped and removed to prevent deadly disease epidemics; and the project can do this for you. If greys are known to be in the area, you should also cease feeding the red squirrels and try to minimise the amount of foods put out for birds”

    Red Squirrels Trust

It sounds like those greys are around so it may be best not to feed. That might be the advice that has been given.

Why are you shouting?  Site shops are run by the site wardens and have nothing to do with the club’s.  What do think the BBC will do

Yes you can't feed one without feeding the other?

That’s why the advice is worded as it is, Corners. Sad but it’s another instance where human intervention needs further intervention to undo the damage.
