CL Pricing
Has anyone else booked a CL recently and found the advertised price on the CMC website is nothing like the price the CL is actually charging? I've just contacted 3 different CL's in the same area. One is charging £2 more than advertised, another is £4 more and the third was an astonishing £10 more than advertised. I know the advertised prices are "from" prices, so who pays these advertised prices. I understand some sites might charge more in summer but we are looking to go away in the middle of March, hardly high season! I've been a member for over 9 years and up until covid, the price advertised was the price I paid. Anyone know what the reason is for these price differences?

Sadly it’s quite common now. Some CLs simply don’t update their information, sometimes it takes HQ time to update the prices. Hence the “from” price🤷♀️

Reason ? Cls are by and large amateurish. There are exceptions but I was never a fan. Proper professionally run, business like sites of all shapes and sizes always had more appeal.

The CLs would have informed the club of their minimum price in mid to late 2022, perhaps 18 months ago, in order to be included in the Site Directory that lasts for 2 years from 2023 through to the beginning of 2025.
How has your own overheads gone in that period? Stayed static? Nope thought not.
Being a regular user of CLs I would agree that some are dilatory in updating their prices on the website and some are shocking but whenever any commercial outlet quotes "from" prices I always take it with a pinch of salt knowing I definitely won't qualify for it.
I think ETs generalised statement of CLs to be wide of the mark. Some are amateurish others make bigger sites including the CAMC look like amateurs.

I think its safer to establish the current price when you contact the CL. The Club always point out that the price quoted can change as CL's are small private businesses. Some of them are probably only now thinking of what prices they will charge this year and may well have been slow to inform the Club and of course you need to allow time for it to be processed through the system. I suspect most CL's charge one price all year for simplicity but as others have said sometimes there is a case for charging more during the winter when there is greater use of electricity although I suspect many CL's look at their pricing "in the round".

I am surprised the Club puts up with some Cls and lets them retain membership if they can’t produce their own simple personalised website with accurate up to date pricing, decent photographs, useful practical information for visitors , and a booking chart showing availability..
Only the other day there was a post pointing out that some CLs don’t even answer e mail enquiries. It seems to me the Club is too tolerant and just wants to maintain the number of CLs at all costs. I know there are some with high standards, of course there are, but certainly some where the Club should crack the whip and lay down standards.

We stay at a grass site which only has water and loo dump. No EHU. Quiet and peaceful, but no real views. Not in a tourist hot spot. £8 a night. Why would they want a web site? There is an accurate photo on the Club site, a phone number and an email address. Dont need any more. Dont want CLs trying to ape Club sites.

I think you ask a lot (too much?) and don’t forget those websites, even simple ones with booking charts, cost money. Then you’ll wonder why CL site fees increase and blame the site owners for raising prices!
The only thing that’s necessary in the context of this thread is for CL owners to keep camc up to date with prices and to respond to calls/texts/emails.

Your last sentence TW sums things up in a nutshell.
