Xplore 422

We are new to caravanning and are taking possession of our new Xplore 422 in the next few weeks.

We are trying the web to find out the dimension of the upper section of the awning rail (the horizontal bit); all we can find is the overall length.

Does anyone own and Xplore 422 or know this dimension; as looking to buy before collection and our first stay.

    We had the same problem (I assume you're looking for a awning porch?) you can either go and see an identical model and measure it or best guess by talking away the sides from the overall which are about 2 metres?

    You say it’s new? I presume you’re buying from a dealer? I think I’d be asking the dealer.

    Sorry can't answer your specific question but would advise you to ask your dealer to upgrade your plated weight to allow you more payload.

    This will make a huge difference to you, believe me. We have a caravan originally plated to give us 159kgs payload but the previous owner sensibly upgraded it by an extra 50kgs giving us a more than manageable 209kgs. 

    Having owned several compact caravans such as the 422 I know the payload will be quite low. We looked at one 4 years ago and it was about 120kgs but the dealer did say it could be upgraded, I forget the amount it could be lifted by but even if only 50kgs it really will make a difference to you.

    Regarding your question I would suggest ringing the dealer and ask them to measure it or call in yourselves if dealer is local.

    If you cannot get an answer off the dealer then try and download a flat on side view of the van and print it off. You should be able to get the total length from a brochure so then a bit of maths and you can calculate the length you are looking for.

    I did this on my current van for exactly the same reason, to work out what was the longest Isabella Shadow sunshade would fit and if the awnings from the van I'd sold would fit.

    I note that up plating has been mentioned above. If this at all possible then I would strongly advise doing so. Low payloads are unfortunately common and to my mind totally unrealistic. I have a theoretical payload of 490kg and no worries.

    422 owner here, the straight piece of the awning rail is 3.200m long. For a porch awning I would go for a 3.000m, depending on the actual awning make a 3.300m will fit. Have you asked your dealer for the weight upgrade (free) to 1200kg, well worth doing. Good luck and enjoy your caravaning.

    Thank you very much, the awning we are looking at is 3300mm, but the inflatable posts are well within this, so should be okay.
