As a members club, I thought it would be a good idea for members to come up with some Ideas to help raise the profits. I have just had the idea that owing to the strict 13.00 rule the club could compile a booklet, showing safe waiting areas near Club sites, as it's not easy now a days to stop on route if you don't know the area, it could then be sold to members to rise money. I came up with the Idea, when as the departure time was 11.00 at the site we're on  ,our next site was Hunters Moon 1hr 15min away. As we hadn't booked HM we thought we would see if we could get in at a commercial site just down the road from HM, we are glad we did we got in no problem, lovely site ,cheaper. So the Club lost another £ 214 added to the £1,000 + we would normally spent this year ,we got turned round last Oct at White House Beach ,causing havoc in the village for arriving 9 mins early, a member did suggest we went round the roundabouts a few time so not to arrive early. So a booklet of safe pullovers would help members, and help the Club funds .

As I’m not a member I can’t really bother about this. However, I’ve noticed before that you refer to CAMC making profits. There are no profits as such because CAMC is a non-profit making business and there are no shareholders wanting dividends. Any operating surplus is ploughed back into site acquisition and upgrades.

Did you stay at Birchwood? It’s a far superior site to HM in my opinion.

Just to be correct no one told you to go round the roundabouts a few times SL and the 'havoc' was caused by you deciding to ignore the stated 'do not arrive before 1pm' and it is the club's policy to turn people away arriving early the wardens were doing their job. I, and quite a good few others, fully support it. Though why bring that up again I don't know?

But back to your suggestion, I'm not in favour for a number of reasons. Firstly for 150+ club sites it would be quite an undertaking and very costly. And how far out do you go for these stopovers? Five miles, ten twenty mile radius of all those sites? On all the possible approach roads? And what happens if these places are full? How much do you think such a list would cost and what price will it be sold at? I would rather the money needed by spent on club sites and services

But the main reason is that the vast majority now they know they will be turned away mange to get to club after the arrival time by planning their route carefully. With google maps, sat navs... one's arrival time is clearly displayed and updated as you travel and allowances made for. As was stated aim to arrive by 1:30. Even before maps and sat navs I managed to work out how long a journey would take. So I don't think the money would be recouped which for me is the best reason. Members don't appear to need the help you're describing.

Given that everyone has been banging on about how expensive club sites are this year, I can't see many regular contributers thinking that this is a good idea.

Ps. Look out for these blue signs. They'll save you a lot of aggro

That's a bit confrontational TimboC. We may or may not agree with the OP but it's a forum and that's what happens. The  potential "P"arking at roadsides is hit and miss with you not knowing about them until you're on your journey and when you do come by one it could be unsuitable.

…..or full whether listed in a guide or not.

Surely we're all capable of sorting ourselves out which is what Timbo is saying.

If that was what Timbo was suggesting it could have been done without the sarcasm. Some members will be tempted not to post if they were to be on the receiving end of such a reply.

I can't see how there would be any financial benefit to the Club producing such a guide?  Also, of course, the Club are trying to move away from printed matter. There is also another issue in that the Club could suggest you park up at the local ASDA car park as an option but would they be duty bound to ask ASDA if that was OK? So you see more than just a simple task. Fine if one of us suggests that but if the club do it sort of becomes semi official.

I think people should be self sufficient in finding this information. After all we have all the information at our finger tips. Using Google Maps/Earth its easy enough to follow the route to your intended site and along the way establish stopping places. When we move between sites we usually stop at supermarkets for shopping and a coffee en route. Perhaps not so easy with a car and caravan but it depends on the size of the car park. A couple of times last year we stopped a the Ivybridge Tesco and there were several caravans in the car park. Its just a question of using Street View to your advantage. Likewise you can establish laybys and other parking areas along the route. We all know what time we should arrive at a site and it is our responsibility to make sure we are not early. You can hardly blame the site for enforcing a rule?

I've got a much better idea sunlovers if you find it hard to adhere to club rules and the ensuing havoc you like to cause because of that. One that won't cost the club a bean too. Start a thread on here, I'm sure Rowena could make it a sticky, and other social media to gather the information you require and publish it yourself. I'm sure the handful of folks that like to turn up early nowadays like yourself would enjoy it. Early arrivals on club sites are minimal nowadays, as an example on my site this whole season we had 4.

"I've got a much better idea sunlovers if you find it hard to adhere to club rules and the ensuing havoc you like to cause because of that."

    Whoa there, JK...

I don't think SL 'likes to cause havoc'....he arrived less than ten minutes early at a site, got turned away and there was an issue in the village..

I know what Kessingland is like and, in this case, perhaps a tad of common sense might have been to ask him to stay put for a few minutes, tell him that he shouldn't arrive early next time and then let him in at one o clock.

forcing him to return to village might have been the clubs policy but certainly didn't help things in town.

Im not sure about his suggestion either but just berating the chap for testing the water with an idea won't make him feel much better either.

as Colin mentions above, there are a few posters on CT who seem to think they are an authority on all things and are mightily quick to leap on folk these days to 'put them right'...in fact it's pretty well all some do...it's getting to the point where you can't post for fear of having a post dissected. Hardly friendly behaviour.

my advice to SL, do what you did near Wareham and go and visit some friendly campsites. Good luck mate.

Sun lovers, I sympathise with you being turned away

I suggest that in future you book a CL or an independent site -and if  you are running early phone them and ask whether there is somewhere you can park up - or whether there is a chance of pitching early. Many of those sites are very obliging.

    Good wishes
