We have had a lovely day today, out Hathersage, Hope, Castleton way. Bit of pooch walking, bit of scenery viewing, mainly watching Storm Babet arriving. For anyone visiting out here, there’s a fabulous eatery that knocks spots of a lot of the other cafes and pubs in the area. It’s called The Bird Cafe, and isn’t far out of Hathersage heading towards Hope. Lovely riverside cafe cum deli cum plant nursery. Specialises in herbs and veg plants in Spring. Cafe has a glass wall overlooking tree lined river, and lots of different birds come right up to feeders close to the windows. The food and especially the cakes are delicious. Breakfasts and afternoon eats, but not evening meals. Covered dog friendly area outside.

Still fine this morning, and it has been about 15C all day. OH got some washing done before the forecasted rain arrived and then we had a walk on the Wolds, taking in a couple of villages associated with Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Bag Endaby and Somerby, where his father was the Rector. The churches are not that spectacular, but interesting all the same. Will post a couple of photos tomorrow when I have chance to resize them. The wind grew stronger as the day advanced and the rain arrived a couple of hours ago.
Hope everyone stays safe and suffer no structural damage at their homes.

Back from a few days at Penrhos CAMC site on Anglesey. Weather has been good although a bit windy whilst packing up this morning. A great sunset on Monday night.

Bet it was good to get the car back and take the 'van out again David.
The weather has been quite kind today. Belted down overnight but apart from a very brief shower we've had a dry day so far with just a breeze. Don't think it will stay that way.
Food shopping then a quick coffee before taking MiL to town for her covid booster. She asked how many she has had and apparently it's now number 7.
Started getting some of my autumn clothing out, long sleeve shirts and a couple of weightier jumpers. Shoulder seasons can be awkward so best to have a mixture.

We have had quite a bit of rain, and it was windy overnight. Worse further NW at Inveraray where the holiday makers are, some awning pegs, which were very well anchored last Saturday, have pulled out overnight. DD has replaced them and doubled up on some and they seem to be holding meantime. And there has been quite a bit of rain.
Another caravanner further from the loch stopped by as she was hammering and related that they had lost their awning overnight! As a precaution she has packed away the stuff in the awning in case they need to take it down in a hurry. She was however worried about doing that in windy conditions.
The do not seem to have much luck with their spring and autumn breaks, always seem to get windy weather.

We are just back from a fabulous stay in Dartmouth - had thought we'd stop off again in Totnes for a walk but it was absolutely bucketing down when we got there and not much better until we got to the Devon/Somerset border - absolutely torrential and very difficult driving conditions (not that it stopped the idiots tearing up the outside lane at stupid speeds). We seem to have missed the worst of it home here but it's not looking too good for the next couple of days. Had planned to go down to Cornwall to continue the birthday celebrations with friends next week but will just have to wait and see what Madame Kirkwood is predicting!

Wow!!! are they not in the red weather warning area, I think Perth is and that is only a couple of hours away, tonight and tomorrow are supposed to be the worst times, i thought i saw on the news that they were already evacuating some areas , hope they all stay safe, if it was me i would just drop the awning and stuff it under the van, it can be sorted later.
mixed day in Stubbers, but not cold, was out on my bike earlier and the thermometer was showing 18 degs, some sun, some clouds and the odd shower but all good
I remember being on a site at Dunkeld many years ago during storm, the number of awnings that were in tatters was incredable, but folk did not listen to the advice of the owner who said to take all awnings down

We never risked our awning. I was camping one September with my sister up at Hexham Racecourse, and a terrific storm up there destroyed lots of awnings, which also badly damaged caravans. Site Manager had phoned those on seasonal pitches who had left them up, but many didn’t respond. Sis and me cooked in the laundry area that night it was so bad. Tent was fine though, a low slung Vango pitched behind a big hedge. The place looked trashed the next morning. Think it’s going to hit us here tomorrow, but the rain has started now. Keep safe everyone🤞

Yesterday evening Margaret told me there was water running down the windows of the lounge. I went out to investigate and the gutter on the overhang was full of water! I set about taking the down pipe apart which released the water but still not sure what was causing the blockage? Heavy rain due tomorrow which should test it. Perhaps I shouldn't mention that I nearly had a Singing in the Rain moment, Eric and Ernie version!!!!

Fortunately not, the worst of the weather is nearer the east coast and the main danger for most people there is flooding, plus wind near the coast.
If we were there we would just do as you say, they have 2 cars there to stash stuff in and it is only a porch awning. However when we put it up I fitted the front and rear awning rail stops to stop it moving position, and they need a screwdriver to remove the front one first. The screwdriver I used has unfortunately travelled home with me. 😮
There may be one in one of the boxes of spares, so they will look, meantime I am in the doghouse.
Fortunately the wind has dropped, but the rain has got heavier. Unfortunately DD did not get a lot of sleep last night, keeping an eye and an ear open for awning problems.
When it is just us, we rarely use an awning, so this one is just a lightweight and inexpensive Sunncamp porch. Better to cut it off the van if necessary than to risk the van getting damaged!

We had water running down the inside of our conservatory wall last night. We are not sure whether it is the guttering, sealant or the downpipe. We just had to put dust sheets and bowls down and move the furniture. We have a guy coming tomorrow to check whether he can do anything or whether we need a roofer. After torrential rain overnight it has been a fine day here but the weather forecast tomorrow doesn't look good.

I hope those who've got water issues get them sorted before the heavy rain hits.
I'm amazed at how much debris has got into our new guttering. (So glad we replaced ours last year when our side wall had 4 water features 😱). Not enough to need cleaning but lumps of moss in those I can see from above. Most of our leaves are still on the trees. We'll see after the winds.
We've had a quiet day weatherwise, small amount of rain and it's been still. But heavy showers and strong winds last night. Might have got some more gardening done if we didn't both feel.so rubbish. Colds 🤞, lots if covid locally. Extending our grass area at the back. Uncovered the 3 corner leek area yesterday. Approximately 12 by 6 foot. Covered with black plastic since February, 2 small areas still pale green 😱😱😱. Rain stopped play before I could do more so covered again and stamped on to make ne feel better! I seem 🤞 to have eradicated it in the beds were it hadn't got such a hold. It's jolly fiddly as the tiny white bulbs go mad.
I hope those away in their RV's are braced for the weather, including KjellNN family.

A couple of photos from Gunby Hall, including one of a very impressive Cedar tree.
What a coincidence NTH, we visited Gunby Hall today (currently staying near Woodhall Spa).
Must admit, I'd never heard of it, but it was interesting. We also joined the outside tour at 12, Sarah, the NT volunteer, was marvellous, lots more info. Afterwards we had a nice walk through the estate, altogether an enjoyable visit.

Like Bakers2 we seem to have a lot of moss. ours forming on tiles at the moment and I think lumps of it break off and coupled with the leaves is probably the cause. We have been meaning to have the gutters cleaned but have not got round to it. No excuse really as we have recently started to have our windows cleaned professionally and the company also do gutters so I will discuss it with them on their next visit, they come every two months. They do all the windows, even on the conservatory but not the roof thus far so that is another item to be added to the agenda! I can see what started out as a very reasonable two monthly charge rapidly climbing as high as the gutters!

Glad you enjoyed your day at Gunby Hall, InaD, we missed out on the outdoor tour, perhaps another time. We nearly stopped at Woodall Spa,it would have a better choice as it turned out.
After a rather windy and rainy night today was fine and dry, and we even had some sunshine this afternoon. After essential food shopping first thing we visited Alvingham for a walk along by the canal before looking in one of the Two Churches in One Churchyard, a very rare occurrence. One dates from the 12th C and is dedicated to St Adelwold, who became Bishop of Lindisfarne, the only one in the country. After lunch we had a walk beside Covenham Reservoir.

As promised a photo or two from yesterday of churches associated with Alfred Lord Tennyson. Both of the churches, which are roughly 1/2 ml apart, are dedicated to St Margaret. Alfred's father was rector of both. The casting of ALT was from a sculpture by one of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Thomas Woolner.

Not a lot of dog walking on Hornsea beach this morning! It's not snow on the ground but the foam being blown in off the sea. I had trouble standing up - such was the force of the wind - and Meg certainly wasn't impressed

We’ve seen that sea foam Richard, rather weird, impressive waves though! We are on the A1 just now and it’s pretty horrendous, not so much wind here ( near Grantham) as at home but really, really wet!! The road spray is horrible although it doesn’t seem to affect ‘white van man’ drivers apparently. We have also seen about 3 or 4 caravans - they are braver than we would have been. Take care everyone.

DD must have found a suitable screwdriver as they managed to get the awning down last night before it got too dark and wet, will open it up when we get it home as it is unlikely to be 100% dry.
Wind got up here overnight, so quite strongish now, but not too bad. We have come down to her house to feed her budgies and check things. There is a parcel due soonish, but we cannot hang around all afternoon so have requested it be left with upstairs neighbour. SIL will be back tomorrow so he will pick it up. DD and the boys are staying on with us at the site until Sunday.

We also get quite a bit of moss on some bits of the roof, but the birds just love to pull it off. Most ends up on the paving slabs below, but some must get caught in the gutters.
Last heavy rain we had there was water running down the outside on one downpipe, could be a leaking joint or the gutter overflowing, I will need to get my long ladder out and take a look, but only on a nice dry sunny day!
OH has started keeping flyers that are left by people offering to clean gutters, I think she is trying to tell me something. ☹️
Lots of leaves off the trees here already.

We were supposed to be going from Woodhall Spa to a CS near Ipswich today, but on seeing the forecast decided to stay here for another day and travel tomorrow. Glad we did, it's been atrocious weather, and still is. Very strong winds and torrential rain. Apparently, further up the road from the site a tree has come down and blocked it.

Had to go into town this morning to collect prescriptions.
Atrocious rain. We live higher up than town so we were accompanied by torrents of water flowing downhill. Even white van man doing less than the 20mph limit. Car occasionally drenched by lorries going uphill.
Came back on back road where we met nobody and passable roads.

Funnily enough, although we've had rain - it hasn't been that much - certainly not as bad as other people are experiencing. I reckon it was gusting 60 mph on the prom this morning given that it was almost blowing me over. Lot calmer at home, although we are on the top of a hill, there's a further bit of a rise between us and the sea and it seems to be giving us some protection.

Reasonably calm here in MK. Also not as much rain as forecast so don't know where that has gone.
We have a shared drive with our neighbour at the end of our garden, both our garages are linked. When we came back on Sunday from Norfolk we noticed scaffolding on his drive. ( He was having his roof coping tiles reset) Not an issue for us whilst there was no work going on but as soon as the weekend was over it meant getting up early to move my car off the drive. And, of course, once the work was complete we knew the scaffolding would have to come down so I have been up early (for me!) everyday this week just to move the car to a place of safety! The scaffolders arrived this afternoon so that was OK. It seems a very strenuous job, I don't think I could have ever coped with it! Lay in tomorrow unless I am so geared up to getting up early!!!!

We haven’t escaped the storm. It started raining last night, around 9pm, not too bad. Overnight it turned torrential with very windy conditions, stayed like this all day and still going. I had to go out, but was very careful, lots of localised flooding on roads where drains haven’t coped, few bits of tree damage. There’s some bad flooding elsewhere, including town station, Supertram is diverted to Meadowhell, no tram trains coming into town. I came home early from Mum’s today, had a good afternoon doing some cleaning, household stuff. Got to go back out again shortly, it still looks bad, but only a short run up to Mum’s. Hoping it calms down a bit. Nothing as bad as Scotland though, those poor folks.

We were supposed to be away in the van this weekend but it’s very windy here not raining but gale force winds not weather for towing so called up the site this morning and moved our booking back a couple of weeks not an issue it’s one of our local sites that we have been using for 20 years we know the owners well and they did say it was windy on site too so no problems moving the booking a lot more flexible than club sites. Anyway a weekend at home now still gale force winds hoping it dies down by tomorrow.
