Beautiful TDA. I planted one here a couple of years ago but it's taking a long time to grow, I grew one at a previous home and the next owners chopped it down...they removed everything except the grass! Nice to see yours is doing so well. It's been a really good year for roses...heard it on the radio this morning, so it's official...wink

My Bathsheba has only two buds starting to open. But still fairly cold in the East.

A green oasis EribaM. Good to have the trees for shade.

Our apple trees are shedding leaves, they are under stress from the dry weather. There is much talk locally that it won't be a good apple year but I can see plenty on our trees. These are cider apple trees.

Someone else's garden today, Forde Abbey just before the rain arrived! Giant Hostas doing well in the bog garden, in fact all of the bog garden was spectacular. Lifts the spirits to see things doing well. Oh then I spied some peaches in the glass house!

I think this is the correct section for asking this.  Has anyone else had a problem with their runner beans?  We grow ours in a large pot and have had a reasonable crop for most years, I’ve done the usual feeding and watering and we are lucky enough to have lots of bees, hover flies etc around the few flowers we have but nothing has appeared to set any beans!  A lot of flower came off during the high winds but we still have enough.  Is it a poor year for beans or is it just us??

Sorry heddlo, veg isn’t my thing, so can’t help. OH does a few things veggie, but not runner beans.

We usually have too many runner beans so I asked OH to plant less this year and they seem to have done well without the usual glut! Maybe the weather and rainfall have affected your area Heddlo? We had a good start with such a warm June.🌱

Yes we thought it maybe a weather related issue brue, we have done nothing different from previous years.  They were a different bean type though we’ve just remembered, can’t recall the name but I have the packet somewhere.  Won’t be buying them again even though they did have a RHS merit!!

I bought a mix of "Honka" dahlias but they haven't done too well this year. They're in pots, I lost a very nice one over winter and was hoping to see good results with the new ones but the leaves are yellowing etc. Yours look very good Hosta, a nice display!

Just a heads up that there are half price seeds in garden centres just now, got some tomato and peas this morning, dated 2025. The prices in general have shot up!

Nice dahlias Hosta👍 Mine are doing well now, some I leave in, some I bought very cheap early this year. The chuck out Clematis Pixie I got from Harlow Carr for £3 back in April is now doing really well. It’s in its big pot now, with canes for support and is climbing well. Hoping it might flower, but if not will be nice next year. It hasn’t been nice enough to spend a lot of time in garden this week, and as soon as I get home from Mum’s, looking to try and do something, the heavens open. Weather looks shocking for this week, but garden doesn’t half look lush with all the rain.

I noticed my very young Wisteria has a couple of second flush racemes in flower🤔

Here are some recent photos of my daughters rewilded area. Much admired and commented on by passers by. The bees and butterflies are loving it.
Fascinating article here about rewilding and gardening. It seems that even the celebrity gardeners don’t understand the concept and the planning, management and maintenance needed. It’s not about forgetting about it and letting in unhelpful plants which will cause problems, quite the contrary.

Did some seed collecting on a warm, dry (remember dry🤣) afternoon yesterday. I seem to be growing more and more of my favourites nowadays from seed, and asking gardeners at some of the big houses we visit if I can have a few seed heads is paying dividends. Some seed I share with neighbours, we have a nice little plant swop system going on, some I post out to friends elsewhere. I am also a seed bomber, so long as I know what the seeds are. Yesterday sorted Honesty, Aquilegia, Hollyhocks of different colours, Scabious, Delphiniums, Poppies, Lychnis, Nasturtiums, more to come soon hopefully.

After seeing on here a photo of a Salvia "lemon light", which I really liked the look of I decided I would treat myself wink I have spent weeks searching the garden centres locally and when we have been away without any luck, then I found a nursery not too far from home that grows Salvias and they listed it smile, we went there but unfortunately they had sold out of lemon light frown but...we came home with "cool blue" and "salmon dancer" embarassed since then I have also bought "clotted cream" embarassed I am pleased that all are doing very nicely in the border.  I am hoping that I will be able to get "lemon light" next spring when the nursery said they will have new supplies, I have made sure that I have left a place for it.

We managed to get a "lemon light" from an ebay seller and OH has taken lots of cuttings to prevent loss in winter.

In Hope Park in Keswick yesterday, love this Park and always look at the planting. Formal beds and areas to attract insects etc.

Salvia’s galore the beds at Harlow Carr, including Lemon Light. Beautiful drift planting beds, some nice exotics, and who could resist this cheeky little Robin, waiting for whatever folks could provide. Plants up in sale area were very expensive, I was tempted into an unusual Crocosmia, but £20 was a bit steep for a 1 litre pot, so will source it elsewhere.

We love to wander around gardens, always see plants we would love to have in our garden, but oh, those plant sales/nurseries at the end are such a temptation embarassedwinklaughing

Result today👍 That lovely Crocosmia I spotted at Harlow Carr, I found the same one, a larger pot at Beningborough Hall (NT) for £10, so got one for half the price👏

Just need to decide where to try and fit it in now🤔😁

Will post later HH, can’t remember name at the moment. I have a lot of Crocosmia Lucifer, the lovely scarlet one, and a nice orange one called Emily McKenzie. I think Crocosmia will be my next collection, they give so much back.

I’m having problems with my Crocosmia they come in spring all nice leaves and then they die off in summer all brown leaves. I used to grow them in 1lr pots then bury them in the garden , they came quite well , but in the garden NoNo...

Salvias do well here have got a few different colours and they cope with all this heat and I hardly water them.

Glad you enjoyed Harlow Carr Tda, hope to get to Rosemoor in North Devon this September when we are over now I have got the new RHS card and will do some other gardens as well.

It is too hot at the moment to take any photos everything starting to look a bit brown.

I was quite surprised just how much water Crocosmia like. Because we have had a lot of rain in July, ours has done very well. I do split mine as well, as they tend not to flower as well in very large clumps. The one I really want is called Harlequin. The one I got in Beningborough is Columbus.

Harlow Carr had a lot of wonderful Salvias, all sorts of colours. With luck, we might get across to the RHS garden near Manchester at some point. Lots of partner gardens near us though, so plenty to go at.😁

I was inspecting one of two Mulberry fruits we've finally got on our Mulberry tree this year (NT Charlcotte Park is a good place to see old Mulberry trees) when a flash of orange light flew out. The second sighting of a Jersey Tiger Moth. It flew into another shrub..where I see the dreaded bindweed has got yet another grip. 😳
