Altnahara Review
Just back from Altnahara. Beautiful setting and the warden and his wife were most pleasant and helpful. Although the site was very wet the scenery more than made up for it and I look forward to our next visit.
The wardens have just retired and we'd like to wish them good luck in the future.

Still Beautiful. A great place to explore the North of Scotland. Sadly the NC500 has opened up to the world and it is very busy now. I can remember driving from Cape Wrath to Rhiconich (14miles) without seeing a single car back in 1985. Now you have to pull over every second passing place. Venture off the main route though and you can still find some magical secluded places to visit. The road up to Bettyhill is quite something as you follow the river Naver to is fabulous sandy estuary.
I tried my hand at fishing on Loch Naver and there are trout to be had for free here if you fish with a fly.
Red Deer come down to the site in the evening and will forage around next to the vans and motorhomes.
The temporary staff there were excellent, very helpful and made us feel very welcome during our stay.

It is indeed a glorious spot. Have you done a site review so others can share your experience and know what to expect?

We have been visiting Altnaharra for many years~ our first visit was before electricity was 'invented' up there. I echo the comments of The Tanfield Kid - a .
site you either love or hate. One of the 'real' sites still remaining on the network - long may it continue.
