Holidaying with Dogs

Lizzie looks happy in her new spot, David.
Our Boy used to love lying outside with his bed, although not necessarily in his bed😀.
NB it’s not a CAMC site in case somebody picks up on the absence of a lead.3 -
Dogs do have an amazing capacity for finding the most comfortable spots in the caravan, don't they - although, in Lady's case, not always the most dignified position!

Lady?, mmm a bit of a misnomer there M😂

Every holiday customer deserves to have a good holiday, free from things that cause stress and spoil a happy time. Like others we have heard the odd barking dog from time to time, but understand that it will be something lacking in terms of how the dog has been trained or cared for, and it can be frustrating if the owner is tone deaf to what is going on. In this situation, all you can do is either confront the owner, not always a good idea, or contact site staff, and ask them to deal with the situation. If it was behaviour that was constantly impacting on my stay, I would not be happy if it wasn’t investigated properly.
I have said it many times before, it isn’t the number of dogs folks take with them, it’s how well behaved and trained the dogs are. One badly looked after dog can be a nightmare. Multiple dogs, well trained and supervised, won’t be. I know in the eyes and opinions of some, the fact that at times we have taken three, two dogs with us makes us some sort of pariah. But in nearly 40 years of using all kinds of sites, no one has ever had reason to complain about our dogs in any way, and we have never had any site staff or owner tell us that anyone has. I find being judged negatively because we (have) own(ed) more than one dog rather upsetting to be honest. ☹️
Quiet, well supervised, and exercised so much they are too tired to be a nuisance.

I always thought this leaflet was given to all dog owners on arrival as I've mentioned before I've never been asked if I have dog, this leaflet gives clear guidance in a sensible way without being intrusive and should be highlighted in the booking process, I'm sure the club could do more to ensure dog owners and non owners coexist without friction, I've deliberately used dog owners and not dog lovers as lots of people love dogs but are not owners for various reasons, I'm one of them.

When we used to use CAMC sites we were nearly always asked if we had a dog and often the leaflets were forced upon us even though we'd collected dozens of them. It’s a shame if site staff no longer hand them out and instead rely on folk looking up the pet rules online or in the handbook. Might it be worth you flagging that issue to HQ do you think?
Yep, I’m a dog lover without a dog too and it was 7 years ago this week that our lad gave the last wag of his tail.

Gosh Tinny, those seven years have flown by.
Like you, we were often handed a Dogs on Site leaflet. Most of the information is common sense and what any decent minded owner would do as a matter of good dog ownership.

They have indeed flown but I still look for him on his favourite settee.

Yes, to not be asked was the exception. 👍🏻

We might have found our next must go to destination with our pooch! Penzance Helicopters are now flying dogs across to the Isles of Scilly🥳 Not sure we’ed take our old pooch, (although not much phases him being a Labrador), I’d just worry about his age, but could be a doer when we finally get back out doing long holidays….
Overnight sleeper to Penzance, Helicopter to St Mary’s, couple of weeks on Scillies then fly back, train home👍

That’s better than the Scillonian which is no good for humans or dogs 🤢

Oh yes🤢
We took our two dogs across to Mull and Iona via CalMac Ferry, from Oban. They were allowed out of car and up onto the top deck, but not inside the lounge area. It was a lovely day, so it didn’t bother us, in fact quite a few fellow travellers stopped to say hello and give them a pat. They were as good as gold, we all had a really good time. Back in the early 90’s. We have done a few more CalMac journeys, Girvan to Dunoon, Portavardie to Tarbert, but these were relatively short, so they stayed in car, with us close by.

Same here. We’ve taken dogs to Mull, Bute, Moidart and IoW but they’re all relatively short crossings. We didn’t inflict Ireland (🤢), the Outer Hebrides, Northern Isles or IoM (another🤢) crossings on them. People generally seem to want to speak to dogs on ferries 🐕🦺

I think quite a few posters here should re familiarise themselves with the community guidelines.
Talking of leaflets, even if one isn't offered at book in there will always be a plentiful supply of club leaflets for dog owners, bollard electrics etc etc in the site information room.

"As far as I'm aware dogs are top of the list in complaints... "
Oh, I think you'll find they come behind complaints about speeding drivers, pitching the "wrong way", flags, lights, blokes wearing football shirts, children riding round the site, loud TV's, ball games, smelly barbecues, early arrivers, late departers, the state of the toilets, the price of sites, not being able to decline EHU, not having a well stocked shop .... have I forgotten anything?
3 -
…..the booking system?
In my time on sites most people seemed to want to speak to or about my dogs so I can’t see how they’d top the complaints league table either.
3 -
You forgot too many Non Members allowed on sites Moulesy………..🤭
Arch, the reality is that none of us who aren’t employed by the Club can have any definite idea of exactly what does top the complaints list. Speculating what might isn’t the same thing😉

Late departures, especially on Sunday!😁

Someone I know was on a club site, every morning a neighbour walked his dogs across their pitch and others to do their toilet they complained to the warden who wasn't interested did nothing about it and it continued when they returned home they made an official complaint the reply was the most complained about subject was dogs and every dog owner should be given a leaflet explaining guidelines for dogs on sitel

Arch, you a prolonging a debate that is almost as old as CT itself, and always ends up the same way. Posts will be Deleted User, the thread will be locked, and then hopefully re opened for those who do want to share positive notes on holidaying with dogs, rather than another takeover by those who are not interested in dogs, but just want to moan about them.
As Ro’s opening post states, complaints are dealt with elsewhere, not on this thread.

+1, TDA. 👍🏻
Oh, how I’ve tried!

Sorry TW but I only got involved in this thread in response to Dooby69 posting, he started a new discussion on multiple dogs, it wasn't a complaint it was an observation, you guided him to this thread his new discussion was then closed and blocked his post on here was Deleted User, this will be my last comment on this thread obviously some things are not open to discussion.

Your slip up, and that of others, was in refusing to follow the guidance given by Rowena in the OP, Arch. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve pointed you in that direction.
I'm fully aware of the history, thanks.

Don’t stress it Arch, Tinny & a couple of others helped me navigate the maze & rules of the forum when I first joined. It’s good to have folk help rather than attack with digs. Don’t give up as it’s a font of knowledge & help. Most things are up for discussion but a few subjects are weaponised by some & used in a not too friendly way so the CAMC staff regularly publish assistance to help us users steer clear of the pitfalls. Enjoy your day😊
