Hawes Site from A1
I am due at the Hawes site on Tuesday 20th June. I have just seen a news items stating the A684 between Aysgarth and Bainbridge is due to be closed weekdays 0800-1730 for 3 weeks starting Monday 19th June. Do any locals know if this is true and if the diversion route is suitable for towing a 7.5m caravan?
There is no mention of this closurer on the club Hawes page or in the "Before you travel" section. I have left a message with the site hoping they will call me back with some further information but other local knowledge will be useful. For me to travel via M6 instead of A1 will add around 75 miles to my journey.

If you don’t want to go via Ingleton the A 684 re opens at 5 pm every day at Bainbridge when the workmen go for tea, so you should get to the site by 5.10pm. If you prefer to go that way.

Do you mean Carperby? That road doesn’t carry any designation on my map. Although I suppose technically possible, I wouldn’t have wanted to use it when I was towing. Also I would assume that is likely to be the main diversion route and will be busy making it more difficult. The road across to Carperby from Aysgarth is marked unsuitable for HGV’s.

Check this out - it may not happen 🤞

A few days ago we were at the Lower Wensleydale site and there are no issues as far as Leyburn and no roadside information that I noticed. I did see the closure online but didn't investigate further, other than establishing it would not impact on our journey, as we were only going as far as Leyburn.

You would join the A6136 from the A1M not via Aysgarth. It's only a suggestion to check this route, I have walked many areas around there but do not profess to know if its a suitable route for a caravan. Pity the "club" can't provide a suitable suggested alternative- maybe they will when it dawns there could be a loss of income ?

If it’s a designated A road as you say, it’s an unusual yellow colour on the Ordnance Survey 1:50,000 map. Although they haven't picked up on this issue, in their instructions for this site it does state. Please only use these recommended directions for the final approach and not sat nav, due to alternative routes being unsuitable for towing. The route through Carperby isn’t one of them.

The route through Carperby isn’t one of them.
I never said its the route to use just something to consider and maybe someone here could conferm suitability or not.
I have spent time in a cottage in Carperby and the road there is adequate for any type of vehicle however I have not followed it through to the site at Hawes.
