And if a tourist tax was introduced here in the UK, I very much doubt if you will find any locals over here who would know where the money was going either!    The local authorities often don't know themselves and they (and the NHS), seem to lose money like water companies leak water.

I know that Cornwall council subsidises half the bus routes in the county- at a cost of £12 million a year. And those of us who live here are paying that through our council tax.

I also know that Club members richer than I am are parking big motorhomes worth £75000 or so at Trewethettt Farm this week, avoiding car park costs, and getting their bus passes out of their wallets to take a bus up or down the coast free of charge .

But as it is the start of the month tomorrow Cornwall Counvil will take another £300 from me.  So bring in a tourist tax here.

Regarding bus fares many are enjoying the £2 rates, no doubt subsidised by tax payers everywhere. So whether anyone qualifies for a bus pass or not (and it's not just OAPs) the idea is to help people get around and maybe sustain a drop in pollution levels. Cornwall might get some better air in the peak season too. smile

Surely the Government reimburses local councils through the Revenue Support Grant to help pay for concessionary fares? One could argue that anyone leaving their vehicle on site and using public transport is helping keep down pollution? Shouldn't be forgotten that you are also entitled to use your bus pass anywhere else in England. Wonderful scheme I think, shame it's not extended all over the UK.

Don’t forget that you and I can also take advantage of those cheaper bus fares.

I have no issue with people leaving their units on site (whatever those vans cost) in order to use public transport with or without bus passes as it keeps vehicles off our congested roads and helps keeps our public transport alive.

I see the tourists as a positive but would like to see contributions from somewhere to help fund our stretched resources. Whether it be a tourist tax or an increased Govt subsidy to our Council is debatable.

Don't the car park charges go up tomorrow as well?

So it's only the dreaded tourists who use the over rated beaches down there.

If you really want first class beaches try the west coast of Scotland and the islands off west coast  or Northumberland

The site we are on at the moment in Burgundy the “taxe de sejour is €0.22 per person per night. Caravan with 2 adults + electric comes to €14.24 per night. Price has gone up by €0.44 per night since we were here NINE YEARS AGO.

I believe the tax is used to promote tourism in the local commune.

I think I have mentioned it before. In my wagon driving days, many years ago I once broke down in Cornwall. The mechanic working on my wagon told me how they charge tourists more than the locals. From that day onwards I have never gone on holiday to Cornwall, I only ever went while working. I reuse to be ripped off.

I think the retailers in St.Ives set their own tourist tax the way they all bump prices massively in the summer TW

Are the retailers in St Ives also winding up JK and all the tourists. 😂🤣
