Trip up through Western Isles
Might be a bit late in the day for this year but would really like to travel up through Western Isles (Arran, Islay, South Uist, Harris and Lewis) coming back on to the mainland where necessary this July and/or August. Not too worried about the availability of campsites but I have more concerns about the ferries between the islands (direct and indirect via mainland) at that time of year. I don't think I would be able to book ahead by much more than a week but we would have some flexibility. Would we find it really difficult getting a ferry at that time of year? Another potential issue is our motorhome is 7.4m long.

You’ve posted in the overseas section but there are threads in the UK part of the forum of various experiences travelling the Hebrides.
We did Lewis down to Barra in a 6m MH a few years ago on a Hopscotch ticket (now discontinued although you can still make the same arrangement). Our outward and final inward sailings were prebooked and all the others were paid for but not booked. We rang CalMac a couple of days before each inter island sailing and booked a spot by phone (as we also did for sites). Being paid up front meant it was a simple job of quoting a reference number each time to secure the sailing. We had no problems getting the sailings we required BUT that was in June and before the world and his wife discovered the islands.
The CalMac website has much info about Covid precautions and the need to prove you have somewhere booked to stay. Sites may already be booked for July/Aug.
