Satellite TV
We recently had a satellite TV and dish fitted and have a couple of questions for the more 'techy' of you out there. On a satellite TV does the EPG work properly or would you expect a lot of the channels to say 'No information' or just provide the current programme and not show future programmes so that you could record or plan your viewing. Also, should the channels be in a proper order, ie in line with the TV listings magazines, BBC1=1 or 101, ITV3=10 or 115, Film 4=18 or 300 etc. Or would they be in a random (but logical according to the supplier) order? Many Thanks.

Much depends on the software built into the TV. You certainly should get the EPG and in an ideal world it should complete with programes on now and the future but not all do or seem to take a while to get all the information. I have an old Avtex and it rarely gives me the future programes. It used to place them in order but there have been so many changes since I bought it, it no longer does, but you should be able to arrange the channels to suit your viewing by moving them to an order you want them or even adding them to a favourite list. Check you manual to find out how to move and edit channels.
More help may be forthcoming if you state what model TV you are using?

OK thank you. I was trying not to name names but it’s a Falcon TV and satellite and I mistakenly thought it would be like a TV at home, plug it in, tune it in and everything would be where it should be. They’ve been trying to sort it for us but so far haven’t and I wasn’t sure if they were spinning us a line when they told us the EPG doesn’t work properly on any satellite TVs. I’m not sure we can sort the channel order out if they can’t as we aren’t particularly technically minded but I’ll have a look at the favourites suggestion. Thanks.

Both my LG TV, with a satellite connection, and my FreeSat box have a proper EPG for now and future programmes. The programmes are in the normal order you would find on a FreeView TV. Sky will have a different order due to the range of channels on offer.

If it is the Falcon S4 then on page 16 of the manual it tells you how to move channels to re-order the satelllite channel list. I'm afraid it is rather a fiddly task but once done it is done unless you retune the satellite receiver in which case you would have to do it all over again.
