Some ambitious plans for the renamed Brecon Beacons. At the heart of this is the notion of balance, that balance between humans and nature. A million trees are to be planted and restoration of wilder areas should re establish a range of species to their natural habitats. Farming practices in this National Park also to be supported to work in harmony with nature. Fabulous initiatives which should see this area even more attractive to us caravaners and motorhomers interested in the great outdoors and nature.

Recommendations for sites, CLs and attractions welcomed. An article about this fabulous project may be called for in the club’s monthly magazine.

    Good question! It has to! My take is that projects like this have to work with nature and that includes us as part of it. There are many examples GB & worldwide where rewilding and tourism is working. If it can work in those re wilded areas then it can certainly work in areas similar to this project. Education is key and providing the facilities to support and protect both is vital. We have seen misinformation, misunderstandings and a lack of forethought hindering a few initiatives but the tide is turning. The leaders of this project says, balance is at the heart. Oh, and the right native trees are being planted!

    The question was addressed to Micky, however, in my opinion, I definitely think that tourism improves the chances for wildlife. I have had a share in a narrowboat for 20 years.  There are many stretches on all canals, including the Mon and Brec Canal, which are quite a way from anywhere except the occasional farm, but when you are cruising along it, very often ducks and swans will appear and follow the boat, obviously hoping for something to eat, so boats don't deter them at all.  As we all know, animals and birds often appear on CLs, many of them often out of the way, which adds to their charm.  Wildlife tends to adapt to most situations.

    We had a great stay at Pentwyn Farm, just south east of Brecon in Summer 2021. On the CL field, as opposed to the farm camp site. A basic site with water and waste only, but incredible views.
