Noisy differential

I have BMW X3 & Tow a Bessacarr Cameo 525. My previous car a Freelander 2 developed a noisy differential which I changed & then 12months later it started to get noisy again. My current car has now started to get noisy so my question is …Does towing put excessive strain on differentials & has anyone else experienced this. Maybe just my luck

    My tow cars have been either RWD or permanent 4x4 and have never had any diff problems ... either the rear diff of RWDs or centre on the 4x4s so I wouldn't say that towing has a negative effect on a car's diff(s)

    I knew the Freelander was a slip & grip Haldex type, but haven't really taken much notice of the BMWs with X drive. Something worth noting 👍

    I'd just assumed it was .... I knew it wasn't a 'proper' all wheel drive 🤷‍♂️

    Looking on Wiki ... it appears that the Freelander had various drives over the years, ultimately available as just 2 wheel drive.

    Tyres all newish & Pirelli as recommended by specification on the BMW

    Freelander 2 did have issues though I believe due to bearing on the diff not strong enough
