Membership is not a full 12 months
Hi, I am not sure if this problem has been discussed elsewhere before?
We are cancelling our membership when it expires, but have come across an issue I feel is unfair.
Our membership started on the 13th June 2022, so you would expect it to expire on 12th June 2023, but our card states it is the 31st May 2023.
After a conversation via live chat yesterday, the lady confirmed that it does indeed expire on the 31st May.
So, my question to her was, if we want to go away in the first 12 days of June, but do not want to renew our membership, how does the work.
Simple came the reply, just pay the £15 nightly non member fee or renew?
But I am a member, your site clearly states it is a years membership, 12 months, 52 weeks, not 50.
Obviously, if you renew your membership, it will never be an issue, but as I am cancelling ours, I feel short changed.
Like other members have pointed out, this club used to be about the members, but that is now clearly not the case.

It’s always been that if you joined in the first half of the month your expiry date became the last day of the preceding month but if you joined in the second half of the month the expiry date was the last day of the joining month. You seem to be in the former group by a couple of days. Some you win…
If you want to go away using club sites, why not just renew? Four nights away will more than cover the cost as opposed to paying £15 extra p/n. If you don’t want to go away there’s no issue at all.

My issue is, I do not want to renew our membership, but would have liked the option to go away during the first 2 weeks June without incurring the £15 per night non member fee.
However the club word it, the membership is not a full 12 months, if it was, i could go away at the beginning of June and pay member rates.
The club did not make me aware of this anomaly when the membership was taken out.
My reason for the thread was to make others aware.

Whilst I can see the logic of what TW has explained it does seem a bit odd. I have asked to see if there is any official comment on this for you.

I think it would be fairer if the membership expiry date was always the anniversary of the end of the month in which you join. It’s as if CAMC are afraid people will join on 2nd in order to gain almost a free month 🤷🏻♂️

Once again the CAMC are failing to communicate with members or potential members. This condition should be on the front page, at least in the "Frequent questions" part at the bottom of the page.
It's as if the "Club" took a course on how not to keep members informed as they seem brilliant at it.
Having joined 30+ years ago I'm in danger of losing out when I cancel as I joined on the 10th.August. Might make a complaint.

With these comments in mind I looked at my membership card. It shows an Expiry date of 31/12/23 but records that I have been a member since 30/06/19++. This seems very strange unless one had to renew every 6 months but I can't remember that!

After reading the OP I checked my membership card, and found what I think is an anomaly. The renewal date is showing as 31/12/23 but it records that I have been a member since 30/06/19** which seems very strange! If it was always an annual renewal, as I believe it was, something is not quite right!

I don’t get the relevance, my question was a valid one, and was intended to highlight the anomaly in the 12 month membership.

Interesting thread. My profile states my renewal is 29th September 2023. I joined on 29th September 1999

Mine says 31 May 2023 member since 2003 but no actual date given.
Now here's a question, we have a ferry booked and paid for our return crossing on the 18th June, if I was to cancel my membership would the club
a) cancel my booking or
b) ask for extra payment as we will no longer be members or unlikely
c) do nothing. 🤔

That's pretty much the same as a site booking TG. You have to be a member on the day of travel. If you had a booking as a member and then rocked up on site to book in and for whatever reason the membership wasn't current we'd get a big red screen that we then advise you to either join or pay the non member fee.

Yes, most definitely.

You may say that but it is not always the case!
