Tried online chat, about as much use as a chocolate teapot, not only is the club trying their hardest to discourage members from booking pitches etc, by using a totally out of date booking system, it would appear they are trying to discourage members from renewing membership, interestingly it appears to work if you want to set up a direct debit frown

The booking system may have issues but it can’t possibly be out of date. That description applies to the old one which could no longer be supported.

Anyway, that's off topic. Try ringing as I suggested before. It’s quite simple really. Alternatively, you can fill in the renewal form you were sent and post it back.

I think the point you are missing is that I was trying to help you.

I can't duplicate the error because when I go into my profile to renew membership it just tells me I am on a continuous direct debit. It looks as if you will have to phone HQ or change to a DD which I prefer because it's one less thing to remember! Alternatively leave a review on Trust Pilot as they seem to respond to posts on there!

Isn’t that only the first year? It includes a £10 joining fee for non DD payers.

That's not the case, brue.  Paying annually by credit card is the same price as DD; we don't have DD set up and pay each year by credit card, no difference in price.

Rufs, I last renewed our membership in November and had no problems paying by credit card, like you were/are trying to do; but that doesn't mean to say there aren't any problems today of coure, it's a few months ago now.

thanks for input, not sure why a problem now, did speak to somebody on online chat, but less than useless, I renewed by caravan insurance today using the online facilities, no problem, am inclined not to bother renewing membership but not sure how that would affect my caravan insurance, and i have a hefty chunk of no claims discount so using CAMC is very favourable for me.

Surely though, if you were thinking of leaving the Club that thought would likely jog your memory to cancel membership DD? I accept that if you were only generally thinking that you might not continue with your membership that another years payment could slip through but if a decision was made, cancelling the DD would be part of that decision. Perhaps I am just too organised but to me both things go hand in hand.

If you're in a forgetful mood just renew and sign up to direct debit, then after renewal cancel the direct debit. Simples.

Yup that did seem to be the easy way out when i cud not get it to work, but for me this just highlights how poor the club is at providing reliable online facilties, i cant belioeve that i am the only person who has experienced this particular problem and like me, how many have said s** it lets not bother renewing, and even more gauling is the lack of a positive response from the likes of online chat, very poor in my book,

I think David there are lots of get out's for this issue, but this just highlights to me how poor the club is at providing a professional web site with all the facilities that work, and more importantly they dont seem to be aware when a particular feature is not working

I'm only going on the advert InaD which says £59 for DD and £69 for credit and debit card. I use DD. smile

No it's added each year you renew. The incentive is to go with DD at the cheaper rate. You get a reminder so there's  no problem about forgetting.

It’s a joining fee, Brue. I never paid by DD and always renewed by card at the lower rate🤷🏻‍♂️

If you put it to the test TW once more I'd be interested to hear if you get the cheaper rate.  The advert is the same each year except for increases to the overall rate. 🙃

+1, I never had it on a rolling charge either. I don’t do it with any insurances  or my Forest passes either as they all tend to take the(then) hiked charges weeks in advance. It is no hardship to read the reminder then pay👍🏻

well at least some of the checks and balances within the software work to some degree hence you are not allowed to renew whilst your membership is in force, but i find it ironic that you click on "PAY" and then it tells you you may have typed in an incorrect web address, you couldnt make it up, did the TP thing but i guess IT dept do not work overnight as still getting same error undecided

You will get a reminder about the DD and about non DD membership, the money can't be taken in advance customers of any payment schemes have to be informed of impending transactions or payments due including payment dates.

It's up to members if they want to pay the extra £10 for non DD.

not sure i understand this logic,,, wheni tried to pay to renew with a one off payment it was asking for £59, are you saying if i did DD it would be £49 ???

I think that must be, how shall I phrase it, a bit of (deliberately?) vague language on the part of CAMC, to get new members to pay by DD on joining.  It doesn't actually specifically stipulate that renewals are £10 more by credit card than by DD.

Honestly brue, I can assure you that when I paid for my renewal last November (at the "old" rate of £56, it went up on 1 December 2022) I paid by credit card and was charged £56; I've always renewed that way and have never been charged more

Rufs. Happy to hear an actual renewal price and be proved wrong so no further additional £10 booking fees? That's OK then and some of us will save £10 overall by using DD.

     Edit thanks Ina too. smile

Yes, Ina, that's exactly my experience as well. The extra £10 is only an initial joining fee if we choose not to use DD👍
