Caring duties, volunteering/charity commitments, social/sporting commitments at home, ..... the list could go on for a very long time, Mikey.

Being over 65 doesn't, to us anyway, mean we can just up sticks and go away at the drop of a hat.

We probably do go away more than ever these days, but the trips are pretty much all planned out well in advance, as Steve says, the planning is part of the enjoyment!

I agree with you and Steve before - planning and counting down the days is fun.

I thought retirement just meant having nothing to do throughout the week and I did not  believe my dad and in-laws who said they couldn't understand how they found time for work when they did yet it's true!

We have a weekly schedule, and some 'work' and while we don't have to actually do any of them we do enjoy them.

Weekends are mostly usually free for a quick trip away.

I suspect it's a bit historical for many long standing Club members in so far if you didn't book ahead it was difficult to get full weeks because of those blessed weekenders who needed time away to recover from a stressful week at worksmile Obviously that has now almost been turned on its head with the introduction of deposits. I am well over 65 and we tend only to book weeks, rather than months, ahead. There is always an alternative. Sometimes habits of a lifetime take a while to change?

Some people over 65 still work, bearing in mind the state pension age keeps creeping up.  I have a work colleague who is almost 72 and my wife has one who is 77!

I could also ask why people who are retired need to go in school holidays!

One reason might be popularity of some sites and price. We booked 3 days at Chatsworth last November for this November and not only is one of the days now full, the others have increased in price by 15%. OK I had to pay a deposit which they have for a year, but that’s not actually at risk until 21 days before.

We never used to go away in the school holidays, and still avoid them  as far as possible, but as SIL is a teacher he can be home to look after the children then, which  means we do not need to be on duty, or inconvenience the other grandparents so much.

We try to go maybe 2/3 weeks before the Scottish school holiday in summer plus up to another 3 weeks, then be home before the English schools break up.

For Easter DD & Co take the first week (borrowing our van) then we take the second week plus 2 more weeks.    They also usually take a week away in July or August.

And in Autumn we try to start out in late September, before the long weekend break up here, and link that through to the October week, at which point DD & Co have another week in our van.

What we find strange is that the other grandparents, who are both retired teachers, still book time away in the school holidays!

I don't understand why some people have to question what other people do, if it doesn't affect them personally and I have read comments from people who criticise members for NOT booking in advance!

I'm 70 and have never booked more than a week in advance, however, I do realise that a lot of older people like to take their grandchildren with them on holiday, so book in advance due to the school holidays and many people these days, are working after they are 65, so may need to book in advance to fit in with their work colleagues holidays.

I'd really like to see the actual figures for the "popular demand" from members!

I don’t think there is any doubt that members mourned the demise of mid week discount after  the new booking system started. There have certainly been enough comments on CT. It’s just that this reincarnation isn’t what folk had in mind for its return.

It's no use at all to those of us that tour all year round, researching the next trip while away on one trip. We have frequently in the past taken in club sites with the old MWD when it resulted  to a near equivalent price to neighbouring CLs but will no longer be able to take advantage of it because we have not yet decided where we intend to visit and when.

If when things are Deleted User a random bit of text would be nice. Then it wouldn’t revert to the first post on the discussion screen and jump to last reply would work.

There are an awful lot of comments on CAMC FB pages, especially about the way the discounts have been presented, concerning pitch prices in particular as they aren't visible so some think the discount applies to the whole booking.

I tend to agree. For anyone who hasn’t used midweek discount under the old system and knows it just applies to the pitch price, the advertising is somewhat misleading. Especially when the family discount does apply to everything.

Nothing to stop those people who are criticising the criticism from coming on here and praising the club. There are posters on here who are strong advocates of the club and even those who dare to criticise will give praise when its due in their opinion.

In addition do those who just look at "criticism" not look at the advice handed out and maybe acknowledge that the forum isn't that bad?

Agree with all of those points you made Brue.

Got to the bottom of why the MWD has to be booked 28 days in advance….. it’s to give those who have booked super early chance to cancel before the 21 day no return of deposit period kicks in….

As we now ask for at least 21 days notice for guaranteed reimbursement of deposits we have set the time frame at 28 days to provide some leeway for our members as an existing booking would need to be canceled and remade if wanting to take advantage of the offer. We have not done this to garner more deposits, we have introduced it to protect members from the potential loss of deposits due to the way in which bookings would need to be made”

🤷‍♀️ What a system, you couldn’t make it up, honestly. 🤣

    the advertising is somewhat misleading.

Steve, it is much more than "somewhat misleading" it is deliberately so, to confuse those who are new to the " club" and to those that have possibly not used MWD in the past.

We have just booked a commercial site with a proper MWD, 4 nights for the price of 3, and it applies throughout the year except for it's relatively short peak season.

It doesn’t make sense to me either. Why give a discount to those happy enough to book anything at full price, but then set up something that doesn’t particularly attract in spur of the moment visitors to fill any midweek pitches that are left🤷‍♀️ By the sound of it, if the prices rise the closer one gets to staying, it’s not going to be much of a discount anyway🤷‍♀️

You can set a point of sale till up to give almost any price you want with little difficulty these days, so it’s very very easy to have an “on the day price” that could be used for MWD on the day arrivals, rather than making everyone book such a minimum of 28 days prior🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
