GasLight Bottles
Has anyone experience of changing from CalorLite to Gaslight bottles? My question is about the diameter of the 5Kg bottle and how well the base fits in to the mountings on the gas locker floor. Was it an issue or did they go in easily? I'd be pleased to hear your experiences.

I googled for an answer and it came up as (H)38.2 x (W)30.5 x (D)30.5cm.

We have 2 gaslite. One 5kg and one 10kg. They differ only in height.
On our 2016 Unicorn S3 (side has locker) the bottle “bases” seem designed to fit the gaslite bottles (or vice versa) and the strap system works fine.
you can just get two bottles in the locker but they are a tight fit. I put the taller one in the back.
you need to change the pig tail for a clipon fitting, but very easy to do.
I much prefer them to Calor as 1) you can get them, 2) you can see how much gas is in them. 3) the clip on fitting is much easier to use. 4) they are even lighter than calor lite.0 -
Same as Chicolate Trees we have 5 & 10kg. The 5kg fits front locker no problem but I have to tilt the 15kg to get it in. The 10kg weighs 15kg when full compared to Calor steel 6kg quoted weight when full of 15 to 17kg. Caravan manufacturers have made front lockers to accommodate Gaslight for quite some time now. My previous van a 2006 Elddis would accommodate them.

Only one change for gaslite. The pigtail connection. Available from any half decent caravan shop for a few pounds.

Gaslite refills cost a similar amount to Calor/ Kg, with similar initial purchase costs, although their sizes aren’t identical. Safefill costs a lot more for a bottle’s initial purchase, thereafter gas is less than 1/3 of its competitors price/Kg.
The point where Safefill is starting to save money is on its fifth 10Kg refill.
Also remember, that you can top up a part full Safefill bottle, paying only for the gas you use, rather than running it down to empty. And autogas refilling is easy in Europe, whereas proprietary bottle exchanges can’t be done unless you use CampingGaz with its even more inflated prices.

I like the idea of gaslight for weight and convnience as much as anything. Safefill is very appealing for conveneince and need to carry only 1 bottle. Still seem to be getting mixed messages about issues when refilling at service stations.
