I guess some people would rather have that "war & peace" sized book in the glovebox rather than taking 30 seconds to look at the price online where there's no "camouflage". The mind boggles.

They only show the off season all in ACSI price though, I guess it would be a lot more complicated to show the peak prices with all the different add ons that often apply.

    I don’t absolutely disagree.

However you left out the bit about having a decent signal, a device that works ok with the new system and the patience of a Saint🤣 Oh, and do it before 10pm in the evening, ‘cos it’s Lego man time after that🤣🤣

You don’t get those on a digital membership though, they cost extra.😉

I've never looked at the C&CC as "the opposition" brue. Just two big companies providing a similar product.

Surely it's a personal choice to go digital or not ?.

Personally I feel the lack of a site supplement is purely a money making exercise. How difficult would it have been to list the sites and areas , and then even loosely colour coded them according to price ?. That way if a member is working to a strict budget they could at least immediately rule certain sites out.

Of course, hence the winky emoji. However, with the C&CC there is at least price advantage. The CAMC doesn’t offer a discount, they just sent out emails asking you to forgo receiving it and use their super App instead,😂 unfortunately unlike the old one it doesn’t work offline.🤔

Yes it is but membership cost depends on what you opt for. More expensive if you do not opt for digital.

Surely most folk decide on an area to visit rather than consider the whole country. The Club doesn’t have that many sites that it takes very long comparing those in your area of choice. However, perhaps a half way house, a supplement that is available as a pdf. Time involved but no printing / distribution cost and easily downloaded onto a pad, phone or e-reader.

Yeah, like Mars and Cadbury, Apple and Google, Ryanair and Easyjet, PepsiCo and Coca- Cola. Just two big companies providing a similar product. They're in competition, they are competitors, they are opposing one another. You may try your best not to see C&CC as  a competitor, but they undoubtedly are.

It might have been better if you'd addressed Brue's point.

I have used desk top computers since 1984 and been on the internet since 1995. I use the computer most of the time to make bookings, look at sites and much more, but a hard copy reference is still useful and I'd challenge the notion that finding a price for a site takes only 30 seconds - especially on a phone or tablet. If the device is not permanently on, it takes that long to get it fired up.

Your original comment was patronising - especially "the mind boggles" part. Aside from anything else, you need to remember that not everyone does computers.

Oh and by the way, I think War and Peace is about 1,400 pages. My copy of the handbook is a great deal less than that.

I have just put your theory to the test using the stopwatch on my phone but actually searching on my PC. I cheated a little as used Abbey Wood which is the first campsite on the search facility. I put in the number of people and the type of pitch. 32.05 seconds? It would have obviously taken a little longer had I used a different  site but it would have been well under a minute. It would have taken as long, if not longer to do it on the C&CC site from my own experience.

I think JK was just expressing a personal view, as we all tend to do on forums. No need to admonish him in my view?

I've posted on this thread in response to the OP because I too wondered why CAMC dropped the extra information that C&CC still provides in a clear format (without resort to voluminous pages of information.) On another thread I queried why there were no site phone numbers on the site directory pages, an odd omission,  even though apparently they are grouped together elsewhere. This all points to a general lack of attention to detail and clarity.

Over the last few years brue there have been thousands of requests to have all the site phone numbers readily available in one place for ease of use. That started in the last SDHB.

Thanks for the reply JK but it seems an illogical move, why not belt and braces with a phone number on each site page and a list....anyway I'm probably amongst the other thousands that didn't ask for changes....wink

Actually I have recently come across some quite surprising people who dont use the internet.  For example a professional person who used the internet & computers at work and now retired has no computer or internet, doesnt use her phone to connect to the internet, doesnt do email.

I know a few people like that and despite many conversations with them in recent years I can't quite get to the bottom of it. Rather oddly on of them ran a works pensioner group and she asked me to set up an email account for the group so that we could communicate our meetings and events but she steadfastly refused to be part of it despite the fact that to set up her tablet she would have had an email address!

I just wonder whether its really possible to be a member of the CMC these days without some access to the internet. Be interesting to know how many members only book by telephone? Once the booking system has calmed down it wouldn't surprise me that the Club won't introduce a surcharge for booking by phone? I understand they do for overseas bookings.

The mind boggles, I know of no one who I cannot contact on line. There can be no businesses or organisations in this day and age that are not on line. Very often the only way you can do things these days is on line, many no longer encourage phone contact in fact trying to phone is a hopeless task even if they publish a number. I get a respone in 24 hours to emails from my surgery but try phoning, forget it!

I think it's best never to assume how others like to do things, in this case make their holiday bookings or find insurance etc. CAMC isn't part of a huge conglomerate and needs to remember it's varied membership base and remain user friendly in the form of on line contact and printed paper routes.

For whatever reason not everyone is agile on computer systems and some find it less than easy.

But there comes a time when companies and organisations have to modrnise or die and provide for the majority.. I am sure the Club knows just how many members use on line facilities. There will be a time when it is not economical to provide for the minority. I would be surprised if we have not reach that point today.

It took me 63 seconds, starting from scratch this morning, to go to "book a campsite," search an area, find a site, enter my details and check out the price for Easter.

I agree peedee, and to be fair to the club they are at least maintaining a non computer method of booking with no supplement, which is more than can be said for many organisations.

Peedee, it doesn't matter what you can do easily that's fine but some can't. I think you always have to bear in mind the general population not your own abilities.

I think what peedee is saying is that the general population is fine with using computers to book and it is a small minority who aren’t. However, as I put above currently the club allow for that minority with a hard copy SD and phone booking, so there isn’t really an issue.

But before September 2022 I had not a clue how to use the current system, like many others I had to learn.
