Yep, the Evri driver that delivers to DD is apparently well known in the area for their "dump it and run" delivery method.
DD works from home so has a lot of deliveries, and as we are often there, we get most of our stuff delivered to her too now, not that we have much being delivered these days. Mainly bread flour and our Tassimo subscription, both of which we share with DD anyway.
OH ordered all the stuff for our 2 bathroom projects on line, for delivery to our house of course, so we had to be available to receive stuff, and not every company is good at giving a delivery date, let alone a time, so that was interesting.
The "select a safe place" thing is a bit of a minefield as they say you are then responsible if the package goes missing. Most deliverers just have a drop down list to select from, which does not allow you to add any supplementary instructions such as "close the door(s) to hide package."
If you select "porch", where does the delivery person understand that to be? We have a covered area at the top of our steps, then the double wooden doors, behind them what I would call the vestibule, and then the glass door into the hallway.
If we are expecting a delivery and have to be out we close one side of the wooden doors and leave the other side loose to be easily pulled closed (doors are normally held back by hooks). It seems obvious to us that the sensible place to leave the package is behind the closed side, and even better to close the second side too.
This used to work well, but in the last few years, if we said "porch" we often found the package dumped on the open area in front of the wooden doors, which is of course in full view of the street. So we have stopped specifying a safe place if we cannot give more detail. Not that this stops them leaving the package on the doorstep, but at least we are not responsible if it disappears!
The postman is much better, he tucks things behind one of the wooden doors.

Was relieved to speak to a GP today and start a course of antibiotics although getting past the receptionist was hard work as I don't have much of a voice left. Anyway the GP was good and said there was a lot of "it" around...
We are lucky with delivery drops as we're away from the road so things are mostly out of sight although we did find one parcel left behind the back wheels of the car recently. Sometimes I have to deliver stuff locally and I find people's letter and post boxes are in strange or hard to reach places.

Ha!Ha! I'm trying to find exercises that are good for fingers but not the wrist. Having said that I was out this morning cleaning the moss out between the brick paving on the drive with one of those scraping tools. It was mostly just scraping so the left hand did most of the work and the right one just held on with my right arm doing the pushing.The arm is virtually back to normal. A bit stiff around the Rotator Cuff so needs warming up.
The ladies went off this morning to an area that has a Hobby Craft and a Range and came back with plenty of crafting materials so they're happy bunnies. I've finally got a frame for a painting I particularly like of Mrs.WNs of a Conference Pear and its reflection in what its sitting on. I chose the Painting as a Christmas present. Well, I had to have something rather than be a grump.

We have a friend who had to rush her OH to A&E two weeks ago at about 5am in the morning luckily hardly anybody there then as he was having trouble swallowing anyway outcome was he had got some bug but not Covid and they gave him strong pain killers and Paracetamol pills no Antibiotics unless you are on your death bed here, there has been a shortage of some Anitbiotics here, at least he is now improving and able to to outside chores again 2nd bug in two months.
Some gardening here today and have planted some bulbs in pots and violas looks much better will do some more tomorrow, very warm here again 18C plus and when you sit with the sun on your face it feels a lot warmer not quite the same as Cornersteady but nice to have.

We are finally away again after 4 months of being at home. Weather wasn’t the greatest for towing very windy and blustery but not too bad and it brightened up later in the afternoon. First impressions towing with the Volvo XC60 very good although we were taking it easy due to t he weather but it seems to have more than enough power it will just take me a bit of time to get used to towing with an auto as it’s the first one we have towed with in almost 40 years of caravanning. Sites quite busy considering it’s only February

Just checking with OH and he said 3 manual cars in the last 25 years Vauxhall Frontera, Series 3 Landrover and a Landrover Discovery early model the rest since have been auto and would not go back to a manual although he does drive my manual car but I would like an auto next time.

Having driven automatic cars for at least the last 16 years I don't quite understand why anyone has a manual car? Just a shame that Peugeot vans don't have automatics! It seems that those who like manual gearboxes will be, eventually, forced to change to automatic as most Hybrids and, as far as I know, all EV's have automatic gearboxes.

I think it depends on the car. I love our Auto Jeep, it’s sort of switched off driving, unless you go off road, and then it has extra toys to play with. It’s an adaptive gearbox, so quickly sort of tunes into what terrain you are on. Our MH is manual, very nice to drive, VW engine copes very well wherever we go. New Mini is manual, given it has a six speed box, and I have to go over a lot of humps and through speed restricted zones, I seem to be forever changing gears, but on a run it’s lovely. The MG needs you to think about the driving, it’s old style mechanics, manual with overdrive. Makes a fabulous deep throaty varroom noise, and is lovely to drive.
What I don’t get on with is cars that “wallow”, soft suspension has me throwing up unless I am driving. I like Citroen’s but they don’t like me.

It depends on the type of auto box as well, TDA. Some automated manuals are horrible but a good TC box is superb👍🏻.
Full EVs don’t have gearboxes at all but have switches to engage forwards or reverse in seamless linear drive. They’re even easier to drive than an auto car. 🙂

Walked to M & S last Saturday for a bit of shopping then back home ~~ felt totally U/S after I'd unloaded ( only two small bags ) . By Tuesday utterly Bleep Bleep Bleeped !!
.Social phonecall from a very good friend. By the time the call finished they had driven up to my front door ~~ I must have sounded G H A R S T L Y . Took me to task, anything & everything was wrong and after the rollicking finished They had an emergency appt at the Doctors, and my senior nephew was fast approaching. End result was I was taken by nephew to Doc's for check--up. He ordered and arranged an immediate appointment @ Leighton Hosp so visited a part of A & E I've never seen before. Blooded, weighed, x--rayed and questioned by Doctor there ~~ Total end result was 6 hours in A & E one scrip with two different pills BUT at 10.30 pm no pharmacy open. Back home by 11.00 pm
Next morning neighbour arrives for a chit chat sees the prescription grabs it and off to the locall pharmacy who could not fill it so the lovely Muppett hopped on his push bike & shot off to leighton, came back a) with the goodies and b) a glass of water patients for the drinking of
! Had a brief walk of 100 yards for my paper today only to be told You Look MUCH BETTER than you did on Tuesday ~~ Gawd I must have been appalling to see. Still at least I know its just Pneumonia and NOT the Black Death.Have fun keep away from Chez A B M !!

P.S. Forgot to say that the Doctor had typed out a full two -- A4 page life history of ABM so at least I will know what I've had over the last 60 years
p.p.s. only about 8 patients at hospital were masked up and only the phlebotomist and the doctor too.

Oh dear ABM, you've been through the mill, hope you will soon be on the mend. The thought of pneumonia crossed my mind one "coughing morning" at 5am, sitting in the kitchen so I'm glad I got hold of our GP before the weekend. Glad to hear your family and friends have rallied round.
As for the chat about automatics we've always liked them, saves a lot of wear and tear on human joints. Also as TW says an EV is even better once you get used to pressing the right buttons and switches.

The only prolonged experience (3 weeks) of an auto was a hire car in the USA. Once driving schools go for EVs, any future generations will, like USA, have no experience with clutches and stick shifts.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery ABM. Thank goodness your friends and family family rallied round. Do take care. And also OP take care as well. Hope the antibiotics work and the tests come back OK. There does seem to be such a lot of illness around this winter. I suppose we have been isolating for so long that our immune systems are not working as they should.

I know exactly what you mean about so many people being poorly this winter and the lack of immunity. I know there tends to be more illness over the winter months, but I really can't remember a time when there have been so much illness amongst friends and aquaintances.

Well, the vans all ready for another work stint next week. I'm looking forward to a change of scenery as we've been in the clouds completely the last 4 days, along with strong winds today! At least it's kept me indoors, so I've managed to finish rebuilding the old strimmer engine, new piston & ring, runs a treat, not bad for 18 years old. Some posters on here have classic cars, well I have a classic strimmer
. I also have the tidiest workshop on the network
.I think with all this illness around we'll be having lots of ventilation in reception. We also still have the perspex screens up so fingers crossed we'll be okay.
There's only about 80 vans coming in over the week so pretty easy going. It's better now with the new system as there's hardly any late cancellations so it's easier to plan the day.

That was a good while ago Brian
Yeah, brought the fifth wheeler back from Spain about a year ago. The club have been very accommodating letting us site it here. I had to extend the compound at my expense but worth it. There was a concern about electric use but we have an extensive solar set up so only use about half that the average member on site does. It's a nice place to put your feet up at the end of the day

We have fortunately avoided most bugs, but the little ones do bring all sorts home from nursery and share them!
I have had a cold and cough, not a bad one, for a couple of weeks, but now gone. OH managed to avoid it. Little Nathan seems to have a permanently runny nose.
We had a bit of a scare last weekend, but great care from our local health board.
OH became very unwell on Friday night last week, could not keep anything down, terrible pain in abdomen. Phoned NHS 24, they sent us to out of hours GP very early on Saturday, he sent her straight to the big hospital in Glasgow for immediate surgical assessment as he suspected a kink in the small bowel.
They did blood tests, X rays, and CT scans and agreed. There was some medication that might help, otherwise it was surgery. She was admitted by Saturday lunch time and treated that afternoon. Also given fluids and anti sickness stuff. Fortunately the treatment worked and the kink straightened itself out overnight.
After making sure she could take food OK, she was allowed home on a Sunday evening. She is doing fine now, but still being careful what she eats. Not too much fibre, only easily digested stuff.
They had idea as to why the kink happened, could be due to adhesions from previous surgery, but that was back in 1983!
I now have instructions that, should it happen again, I should take her straight to A&E.
Hospital experience was excellent, visiting any time, all single rooms with en suite, food apparently not bad, and electrically adjustable bed was declared to be very comfortable!

Had an early start this morning, workman in our road digging trenches along the pavement for fibre broadband cables. We had to move the barrier and carefully negotiate the trench to get out! 😮
It's our Grand-daughter's first birthday today, how time flies. Been in MK today to help her celebrate 🥳

In our Close we had John Henry and Openreach dig up our pavements 3 times during last summer. Dust and debris everywhere 😡. They still have the odd go at it, just 3 weeks ago most rectent. It seems they didn't get the cables through properly.
BT made us an offer, we couldn't refuse, faster speed via fibre, same package and a £9 month saving. No penalty as we agreed an 18 month package when we moved in 10 months ago. They're coming to do it Wednesday 🤞. I cross my fingers as 3 out of 16 houses, not sure how many have taken up the offer of fibre, have had big issues and gardens up again.....
One of those with big issues is a retired BT engineer, who says we should be OK as we are the end of the run 🤞🤞🤞

Oneputt hope your tests are swift and you're better very soon.
My OH is still coughing, much looser, but I suspect he'll need more than this course of antibiotics.
Lots of bugs about and suppressed immunity, certainly in our case.

Didn't add as an edit to.the above because the cursor still jumps about and random spacing. I've cleared the cache, turned off predictive text, turned the phone on and off - all to no avail. This is on my Samsung phone but my older Samsung tablet is fine.
I've had cause to use several government websites recently, along with others, all have been fine and intuitive. The government ones always ask how easy eas it to use. Speaking as retired local government officer, who had to suffer what I thought was a hard to get to grips with 😉 but I now realise it wasn't that bad 🤣🤣

Just up the road to Minehead NTH, doing a weeks rest day cover. Going to grab a last minute cheeky week in the sun when we get back, then it's head down to get the site ready.

Very nice Corners. Loving the international Lifeguard uniform😁 Our next door neighbour visited a couple of years ago, and she enjoyed it. Is it very much a relax in the sun, stay close to base type of place, or can you get out and about a bit to explore?
Hope folks are on the recovery path, such a lot of posters under the weather at the moment.
Nice morning here, and I have a day off. Bike🤔 or garden🤔 Needs to be bike really, OH is busy transforming our Banbury purchase, although it’s not motorised yet. I need to show enthusiasm. Get the first aid kit ready, it’s some 35 years since I rode a road bike in anger🤣

Breezy here today from the north but still sunny and looks like we may get 20C on Monday and then 21C on Tuesday then it gets a lot cooler for a few days plus a bit of rain and getting a bit warmer again the following week.
Enjoy your bike ride Tda, my old Mountain bike will be advertised next month just collecting dust in my shed probably will not get much more than 30 euros for it but it needs to go plus a few other items in the shed.
