Altnaharra water - what does everyone do?

Will be visiting Altnaharra this summer and have read about the water coming from local river treated . OH doesn’t want to draw it through the caravan water system. I get that motorhomers probably fill their tank before they get there - what do other caravanners do? We are there for 4 nights so bottled water might prove costly. Any recommendations please.

I am sure the water at that site would be fine for washing and washing up even if you are concerned about drinking it.  You can always throw a purification tablet into the Aquaroll at the next site and rinse it through. Bottled mineral water is quite inexpensive, especially the quantities that would be used for drinking, making tea and brushing teeth.

We used it in our MH's system and for drinking with no ill effects. Six weeks into a tour means you can't always fill before you arrive.

If it's treated, what's to worry about as isn't all our water from rivers originally before going into reservoirs then to treatment plants? 🤷‍♂️

We have been visiting Altnaharra both in a caravan and a motorhome for many years and have never experienced any problems with the water. If in doubt use water purification tablets in the aqua roll or water tank.

Just buy a number of 5L bottles of bottled water, under a pound (or they were) at most supermarkets.

At the start of each stay we always put in a few purification tablets into the aquaroll before connection to the caravan anyway.

It's often peat coloured too but when you think people drink re-cycled |Thames water it's probably some of the best water around, enjoy it!

Most of the tap waters in the UK have already passed through 2/3 people before being retreated.

We just filled the MH as normal. Well apart from having to walk up the tump to the tap with the watering can multiple times.😂 We don’t drink water direct from the MH tap anyway, only boiled for tea and coffee. I prefer fizzy mineral water if I want cold water. Always use the tap water for brushing teeth / rinsing and did the same at Altnaharra with no ill affects.

Enjoy Altnaharra, it’s one of the best sites on the network. In my opinion anyway.

Some superb places from there. The clearance village. Excellent trout fishing locally and free from the camp.

My only regret is having to cancel our second trip there. Fabulous spot.

We don't drink the water from the tank or aqua roll, I have a separate water container that I use.

Its quite common in rural areas to have water from rivers but as already been said its treated so shouldn't be an issue.

We will get there one day.

Never had any problems with the water there and as has been said there will be oodles of places to visit ~~ even a trip to the RSPB site on the Flow Country  which is based on Forsinard Railway Stationlaughing
