Home tomorrow and then the park closes for February but we've booked a dog friendly hotel break in Ilfracombe later in the month. My one memory of the place was on a family tenting holiday, must be getting on for 60 years ago now, but it tipped down with rain the whole time we were there. Only time I can remember Mum & Dad deciding to pack up and go home early. So I hope it's got the wet stuff out of its system by now! surprised

Rain & Ilfracombe seem to go well together M. That's probably why the locals call it Ilfragloom!!

We like it here. That's a bonus point in doing this job, you get to experience life and work in some brilliant places, most of which we'd never be able to afford to live in. Just a pity that everywhere along the coast is either second homes or bought to rent via air b&bundecided

Please don’t get me started JK, it’s time something was done about it. Young locals just can’t afford to stay. It’s time homes that aren’t real homes are at least charged double Council tax. I’ll say no more, don’t want to be political in any way on here.

Another freezing cold day here today, to cold to work outdoors. So we went for a nice drive up into the hills instead. Snow and thick ice on the roads where the sun doesn't get to but the rest was fine, only met one other car coming in the opposite direction. Tomorrow is supposed to be above freezing.

Good to hear from you Bakers2 and that you are getting things done in the garden.

DEBSC, here in Scotland if you have 2 homes you now have to pay more tax and Airbnb now have to have planning permission to carry on trading. Quite a few in Edinburgh have been refused. I think they have until Oct.

Kj, isn't there a Motor point or an Arnold Clark motorstore. I know we went to the Motopoint in Glasgow years ago to collect a Ford Smax.

Had a good day today all things being considered  smile.  Nice gentle stroll into local retail park for a little food shopping at M & S. Fortunately the footways were not too icy today but plenty of shoppers out walking for once !!   Just got the goodies put away and the kettle on when my pigeon fancying neighbour popped round ( I think he can smell instant coffee  at 150 metres)  It seems he went for a train ride oop Blackpool way to see the strangest sight of all  ~~  The National Pigeon Fancying Fair ==  you know the one without any pigeons 'cos Bird Flu' is rife up Blackpool  way. Still he got back in time to get to the Alex porage pitch only to find the match was called off at morning coffee time !!  So he'd had a pretty wasted day all in all, and he hadn't even been to Nantwich to see the Cafe his OH has started working at.  Somehow I don't think he will be flavour of the month round his part of the Avenue.

Good sunrise today, but still cold!

JK we've done that walk from the opposite direction, we went with friends and looked forward to a pub meal at the return point just outside Ilfracombe...the pub was closed! A bit like ABM'S friend, one of those days. Hope Moulesy enjoys the next break over on the N Coast.

Sounds like the B2s are making progress. When the ground decides to thaw out we hope to get on with the planned fencing. The wood yard said things were quiet, I'm not surprised in this weather. smile

We too have another beautiful sunrise, chilly -6c but no fog thankfully at the moment. We've been very lucky with sunny cold days recently.

Fortunately our guys weren't working as fast as their boss would have liked Friday and didn't get as far as pouring the retaining wall footingsbefore they left. Forecast was for it getting warmer from Friday lunchtime. If anything temperatures have dropped lower than before they said that. 🥶🥶

Lovely visit from son and grandson whilst mummy worked yesterday. All visits are nice. Grandson, such a boy, was delighted to see an almost his size real life digger in the back garden 😂. He wasn't so interested in his ride on car or tractor that live here 🤣.

I'm treating myself to a very slow start but must move soon! Enjoy your day folks

Had to update my phone yesterday and its not as easy, that's in relative terms 😉, to use this forum, it keeps giving huge spaces. I notice some other posts have vast emptiness at the end of their text.

Another grey day here, but at least the temperature has climbed to +5.

OH has decided that we should initially look at a VW T cross, but there are not many automatics around.  She has found one down in Ayr, which is not too far away, but just wondering about servicing for maintaining the 3 year warranty as Ayr is rather far for that.

Local VW dealer is Arnold Clark, where we bought our Touareg, but without a service plan they are expensive.  Think we may drop in there just for a look at the size of the boot and try out the seats for comfort.

Having decided on the budget, the "shortlist"  is now considerably shorter, so next thing is to check out the other makes and  models  still on the list.

We got a Christmas card yesterday! It travelled all the way from Newport Pagnell all of three miles away! There is a date stamp on it of 28th December so it could have been posted before Christmas, with a first class stamp,  and got caught up with the strikes? One reason for it being late could be a missing post code?

Not warm enough and no sun for anything to melt on the ground outside and the paths are treacherous so no walk today.

Having an exciting time sorting out my car insurance. Doesn't get much better than that does it?winksmile

Have put a Guinness Beef Stew in the oven for a long slow cook.

Hope the Nellies feel a bit better.

Wife has been batch cooking this morning, those lovely cooking smellssurprised, I bet it's the same in your kitchen WN?

Had busy hands today so as there's a new electric hedgetrimmer on order I've stripped the old one down on the bench. Not bad for 16 years old, just needs a new piston ring and a service. I'll set about the cutting head in the morning. Ebay is great for sourcing parts for old equipmentwink

    Sunday roast is callinglaughing

Just finished dinner, a bit early but beef was ready. You're right JK, the smells could put pounds on you. The Guinness had a decent burial. Hope yours was just as good.

Gosh you do sound busy Bakers2 but I am glad that you are getting some jobs done. I love the photo of your little grandson looking at the digger through the window.

Lovely photos moulesy. I hope you have a good holiday on Devon. Rain and Ilfracombe don't always go together. We holidayed in that area (in the Sterridge Valley near Berrynarbour) for many years and it didn't always rain.  We were there during he summer on 1976!

I had a day on Friday when one job seemed to lead to half a dozen others! I decided we needed to take the blind down in our bedroom as it had seen better days. It meant moving some of the furniture so that we could get to it more easily, which in turn meant giving the area around said furniture a really good clean. I then had to wash the net curtains and clean all the windows and the surrounds.  I wished I had never started! The fridge freezer in the garage needs defrosting and cleaning out and was on the list of jobs for today but it is so cold out there I think I will leave for another day. A really hard frost today and it hasn't got above freezing all day.

Milliehull your Friday sounds so much like our house since the move  🤣. Not sure we'll ever be straight....... Next important job is to get the dormer ensuite insulated from the outside. We keep the door closed, and it's unused at present. I went in there this morning for supplies - just 7c and yes heating was on 🥶🥶🥶. Its been beautifully refurbished but the most important, to us, thing hasn't been dealt with. Spoiling the ship for a ha'poth of tar. Like so much here. Still wouldn't swop the house back.

Frost in the shady parts hasn't shifted for days and days. Not expecting much action on hard landscaping for next few days looking at various forecasts - but at least it's tidier than it was!

Grandson is well into mechanical things and I have a lovely video of him sitting on the digger using the controls. We were surprised to find the key still in the ignition- luckily before he discovered it 😱

Yes and so much smaller than the tractors and combines which are his usual fair. Not that the farm has a digger but he must of thought it was 'his' size 😉🤣

    Great photo B2!

Our 2 little people are also keen on the machinery, they live  next to school playing fields and the groundsman has several interesting tractors etc which they are allowed to go and look at.

Callum's favourite outing is a trip to the Transport Museum in Glasgow, closely followed by the  Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride where there is a lot  of farm machinery on display, and several tractors to sit on.

Same here Millie, our fridge freezer in the garage needs a clean but too cold to contemplate it at the moment. It isn’t working at the moment as the ambient temperature outside has got so low. It’s empty due to this so the chest freezer is full and so is the small kitchen fridge. Our fridge freezer in the caravan is better and overrides this, not that it’s on at present. We inherited the home one from an Aunt and I have to watch the outside temperature like a hawk every time it gets cold to get stuff out in time.

Another sleepless night and we overslept til 9.15am this morning. Rather behind now, just having a quick cup of tea. Going into town today with a few chores to do. Might go into the garden centre for lunch, it will make a nice change as we haven’t done much lat Ely with OH being under the weather and the cold.

Also need to do our small chest freezer in our out building Millie will wait until next week as a bit warmer next week.

Still cold here but not as cold as forecast said thankfully but still very cold nights for this week, snow still melting slowly but roads are clear thankfully.

Very cold here again with a hard frost. Both cars needed de-frosting this morning as both of us were going out separately. It must be cold because I saw a postman when I was out and he was wearing long trousers!!

Milliehull it's freezing but lovely and sunny isn't it? Our postman has been in full legs since last week as well.

Our workmen, 3 today, arrived this morning to our surprise. Defo more get up and go - footings are now in 😱. Did discuss the temperature with them - hope they really do know what they're doing 🤞 . They ran out of cement so whilst one went to fetch some more. The other 2 further compacted the front, which is in the sun. Bricks due to arrive soon and they'll be moved around the back for laying in due course.

We went out, luckily, a bit later and sun had virtually cleared all the windows. Back indoors and planning on indoor pottering including ironing. Heating is on but cooler in rooms not getting the sun! 🥶🥶

Edit shock horror the bricks have arrive, 3 lots, each wrapped in plastic 😱😱. Why??

Apparently keep them dry. However the brickie says it makes them sweat.........

Good luck DSB hope you get a very good reward for your being with them.shopping. I'm not a shopper myself and dislike intently what you're doing. I'm afraid a coffee wouldn't be reward enough!

Well, I've packed up the motorhome ready for our work stint tomorrow, managed to cram in all the work kit & ppe all under one seat surprisingly! Good to go.

Just about to grab an early beer when I'm told there's an electric problem in the RV. Why is it when you have all the time in the world nothing happens until you have a schedule?undecided. Anyway, I've sourced the problem easy enough, all the mains electrical items in an RV are 110 volt and run off a transformer. Said item has fancied early retirement! Luckily I have a builders 110v transformer (not designed to run constantly), that will do us until tomorrow and I'll turn it all off. Even better I've managed to source a new one at a good rate, just have to drive to Cambs to get it! I'll have that beer nowlaughing
