My collection of OS maps, which predates the digital age and goes back to the 60s, stays firmly in a cupboard at home. I think the last time I bought one must have been in the mid to late 90s. If i want a paper copy of an area, I print it off from the digital versions.
Some of the older ones do make interesting reading for jogging the memory of how it used to be. One of mine still shows Milton Keynes as a village.

OS do some interesting gifts, we have a couple of quiz books we keep in MH. If anyone has someone interested learning how to read a map, they are good for this👍 I quite like old maps made into jigsaws as well. In our house, out of date road atlases are used as wrapping paper🤣

Had a call from our winter caretaker today. He pops by to check the site's ok and empty the post box. The post box, or what's left of it is in the hedge, looks like it's been smashed off, no contents present Site is ok though). I suppose I'll ask for another sdhb when I get back

Just goes to show how popular the SD is, JK.
So can you please put in a good word for them and discourage those at HO from considering the idea of getting rid of them.2 -
I had a quick look at the new site directory yesterday and I noticed the Club seem to have taken into account the complaints about only quoting for the site fee plus one adult. They still do that but underneath they also quote the starting price for pitch plus two adults and also give the starting price for a child. Perhaps CT played a small part in that decision?

I quite like that improvement. Although I’m not sure if the accuracy of some of the other information. I was looking at Richmond Hargill House for visiting Richmond. The booking site only says the area offers transport links with a bus service into Richmond. However the site directory says that a bus stop is adjacent. Street view and google maps do not show this, nor the bus company time table, although the bus does pass the site. Perhaps it stops if you flag it down.🤔 It is a fairly important consideration as the nearest bus stop is almost a mile away and 90 metres lower down a fairly steep hill on a road without pavement. I suppose the easiest thing is to ring the site when open and ask.

I know you don’t like to move your MH when on site Steve, but there is a very good MH car park in Richmond (Yorks). It’s called Yorke Square, just up from bridge over River Swale, short steep stroll up to Castle and town, and then there’s all the river walks. Lovely town is Richmond. Sorry, not sure about buses. Hargill House is a noisy Site, adjacent to A66.

Thanks for that info TDA, it’s certainly an alternative. I noticed the proximity to the A66 but wouldn’t mind for 2 / 3 nights. However, if we were using the parking would probably go from Lower Wensleydale, which we have done in the past when we had a caravan.

Yes, that’s a nice run Steve, particularly if you go over the hills, quite doable in an MH. That car park might get busy in the peak season months by the way, but we have seen some big MHs in there, not just tiddlers like ours, including a Winnebago. 👍😁

It's still retrograde though. I recall when "all" the pricing structure was available in the SD.

I can’t see the point in publishing all the price bands. If you want that, plus up to date prices, much better to use the website. The site directory is already out of date as it gives October 22 prices. However, it does show the relative differences between sites at that time. Personally I think it provides sufficient guidance and anything else would be pointless in a directory that lasts 2 years.

Yes I too (and there were about seven) but at a time when prices were relatively stable, now they are not and cannot be forecast so well even over a year, look what happened over 2022.
In my view it would be a retrograde step to use paper copies like you say rather than a website, greener for one thing but it is far up to date and kept up to date
You said you were on a cruise and been abroad with your MH? Did the companies involved have paper copies like the holiday brochures of the past that were sent to you or picked up in the travel agencies? Did you have to go onto their website to either print them off, just like the club? Or perhaps didi you check the current up to date price online?
And even if you had a paper copy from somewhere as described did it have the up to date prices? Did you just go with them or pay the price on the day of booking or online? As soon as something is sent out it's probably out of date.
Your choice but I'm not sure why you need the prices tbh if you're not going to use club sites anyway?

I get the ACSI book each year, do not book ahead and get the price that is in the book. I live in, probably vain, hope that I might find a CAMC site at a reasonable off peak price but finding one is made even more difficult by not quoting prices.

But then to get anywhere near reliable pricing they would have to publish a book per year. Even with ACSI the prices haven't held for two. That would mean extra costs that would have to be passed on. Pointless in my opinion when accurate information is available online. Yes I know there will be times when you can not get a WiFi or 4G signal, but those cases are getting less and less. Times are changing the world is moving online. I keep hoping ACSI will offer a digital membership at a reduced rate. Although we took the book last year we didn’t use it, preferring the App. That’s where the CAMC needs to concentrate it’s resources, on a decent App that can be used offline, rather than the current version which is no more than a front end to the web site.

But use the website, you know your area you want I assume, so just search and have a look?

We receive the books from the likes of NTS and EH and every year we put the new ones in the car. I can't remember ever using one from one year to the next. If we do want to find some of their attractions and when they're open we use the website. Far quicker and of course use them with google maps to see route and time/distances.
Exactly the same as find a club site.

+1, Epathways are way more convenient, labour saving & allow me to de clutter my life. 30 years ago it was laborious researching my life needs but now it’s a short series of taps👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Britstops introduced an App for first time in 2022. Haven’t tried it yet, but it’s another useful touring tool👍

I was once told by a wise Lady-‘there is no cure for a bibliophile. . .Gladly’ I respect that but it ain’t for me. Edevices like Kindle are a godsend for me. Maps only online & Satnavs-I’m the polar opposite of bibliophile. We are what we are😊

Yes I download books to my iPad for reading while away. The electronic public library is a real money saver.
BUT I do like books. Irrespective of new club site I like to browse the handbook and find that easier than the web. If looking for sites in a specific area I would probably use the internet. And yes, real maps are so much more helpful if telling you about the area you are driving through, not just the route. Without looking at a map, just using a sat nav is like flying blind.

Books…….love them. We still have six bookcases, and three shelves of books in our house, despite having a good clear out. Some are worth money, some are merely favourite authors that we return to over and over again. When we used to leave our van in Cornwall, using it as a seasonal on a CL, we used to have to take a box or two of books home before we dared tow the van back🤣
I do like my Kindle and IPad for books as well now though, space and weight saving in MH. And I have dozens of audiobooks as well on my iPad. Currently collecting the Aubrey/Maturin nautical books of Patrick O Brian.
I do collect Ward Lock Red Guides, brilliant for an alternative peek into tourist areas. Don’t know if these are around digitally🤔
