Steamer Quay refurb removal of non EHU pitches

If folk think std charges for using sites/pitches are expensive then it’s a good bet non members would baulk & opt out-common sense really. Optional for sure👍🏻
Draconian Penalty=Harsh Punisment, really? I think not🙁

Well I must be odd too...IMHO it's certainly a surcharge.
I'm a member (for use of CLs) but even then I won't be paying Club member prices, let alone the surcharged ones.💷

Surcharge=additional payment, I agree BB👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻

...but if that extra surcharge is set at the level of £15 a night for camping pitch, I'd suggest we're moving into the realms of 'draconian' (excessive)...💷💷💷
£3 a night wouldn't be excessive...IMHO £15 definitely is....🤷🏻♂️

A surcharge is a surcharge no matter of how much but the point is that it is purely optional in the same way as choosing to shop in Waitrose as opposed to Aldi is optional. One wouldn't describe paying higher prices as a penalty when it's a choice.

Yes, this surcharge is certainly a surcharge...and at £15 it's Draconian...
hence, Draconian Surcharge😉
anyway, we've moved way off the removal of non EHU pitches at SQ, where the new refurb will mean price increases at about a level similar to the above Draconian Surcharge😉

If you don’t pay it(optional) I’d suggest we are just not re draconian👍🏻

Draconian is a subjective term. However, it is not a penalty. That was my point👍.
All EHU at SQ - bring it on🤣🤣🤣

I don't understand. Do people book with a deposit then just turn up without looking at what they are going to get? They surely know that non EHU won't be an option when making a booking so they have made the choice at that point.

Yes it's a business model but it would fail abysmally if people didn't want to use club sites in the first place just as you did.

...and added to the 'difference' (a number the club can come up with) between the current non EHU pitches and their typical HS pitch. Can't check on SQ at the moment as no prices showing.
I think SP are £4.90 (or so) more than, presumably, a normal HS.
Where would this leave an updated SQ serviced pitch?
...has to be at least £10 more than the current non EHU level and with 40 out of 43 pitches currently grass, no doubt there'll be a hike for that...possibly £12-£15 more? (Draconian?)
considering the location, town easily walkable, I imagine they'll be set similarly to places like Broadway, which is currently £52.20 for a summertime SP....ouch!

Again a business decision and the club's model. Ouch or not to you, are you saying it won't be well used then?

draconian appears to be the word of the day, however according to my ex head of English it can only be applied to a set of rules or laws. However if the rule or law is optional, as is the case with joining or using the club, then it cannot be really draconian.
As always the club is what it is, the only option 'we' have to buy or not, but it looks as if many, (how many hundreds of thousands of booking did the club said have been made since despoists?) are making that choice in their bookings. Prices and sites can't be that bad I would say based on that?

I believe your ex head of English would say-a misnomer in this thread😊

are you saying it won't be well used then?
Who knows, first the Club has to get planning permission until then no one knows what the site layout will be like and how pitches will be equipped. If they are all to be all hardstanding serviced pitches then for sure the price is going to be much higher than in 2022. My guess is the majority users will be caravans especially in the summer months.

Well based on my experience these types of sites are always extremely popular. And again I can't see why MHs won't be in there. At my last couple of SP sites it's been 50% split on SP and in Melrose (I think you've been there this year?) which sounds from how people have described the area the same, it was 80% MHs over four days, and weekdays too in there.

I don’t think that’s particularly helpful to those like DD who clearly don’t want SP provision to increase. We read reports of numerous MHs using SPs which immediately throws doubt on your quip, even if it was meant to be light hearted.

We have certainly booked a serviced pitch in the past to make sure we get a hardstanding. The trouble is that we have become rather fond of having a serviced pitch, especially if staying for more that a few days. We always use our own facilities so probably have more call for fresh water and waste water than those that use the site facilities so its a bit of a luxury to have it all on tap, so to speak. As far as Steamer Quay is concerned, we are unlikely to be regular visitors. However it is a place where you could stay for a week with lots of things to do, as has helpfully been pointed out in some of the posts. So an extra £35 for the week on top of standard pitch prices to me is not going to break the bank!

Again in the sites I use it's all HS yet SP are often more popular than standard HS pitches so that driving force doesn't exist.
As to why MHs use SP I guess it's what they want?

I personally don't use SPs unless there is good reason. It is a facility I do not need but I can fully understand why some do and why they are popular with some, but I would not like to see all pitches serviced. The Club should maintain and expand choice the latter by adding further options e.g. with or without EHU.
