Just been planning our summer holiday and wanting to travel from Dulverton to Minehead towing a caravan (under 7mtres) Is it possible to tow through Dunster? Can't see an alternative route without a massive detour.

🤔 Could be very tight. We stayed in a cottage on West Street, which is the A396, the main route up through the village from the South, and we never left our big vehicle outside, as it was a very narrow road. It’s very busy as well, one parked vehicle can cause delays. Hopefully someone more local might have better information, but whilst we might chance it with our small MH, don’t think I’d want to tackle it with a van on the back.

In a word, no. Dunster is extremely tight, and parts of it are controlled by traffic lights. During busy times, its a nightmare with just a car and there is a very sharp and narrow turn in the middle of the town.

If you look in the handbook for the Minehead site, theres a note on the map saying  'please do not tow through town'. I think that tells you all you need to know

Whichever way you go on Exmoor you will have problems as even going via Wheddon Cross and Raleigh's Cross the roads are quite narrow and you are likely to meet other traffic. The safest route would be back to Tiverton and use the motorway up to Wellington and up to the Minehead road but it really is a long way round. We are local and would not think of taking our van via Dulverton or most of Exmoor come to that.

Try going via Wellington from the M5 this takes you round the back of Taunton nr Staplegrove and onto the A358, avoiding M5 traffic jams etc. There are ongoing roadworks in Taunton just off junction 25 at present.

    We live in S. Somerset.

If you look at the google maps street view you'll see the camera car following a huge low loader with a significant overhang and the picture if the High Street shows a decent sized Hymer in the queue.

there are three or four pinch points but each is controlled by traffic lights. As ever, take things slowly, don't rush and make smaller vehicles wait or move out of the way...
