Lovely day had by us to. Family video call with our 2 sons, all linked in together.

Then at 13.30 we drove to my sisters and BIL to meet up with their daughter and grown up children.

Wonderful meal cooked mainly by my sister but assisted by myself and her daughter. The men did the clearing up and dish washing.

    Now back home relaxing.

Number of nights away this year were 153, no idea on cost but guess an average of £17 pn, only 3 CAMC sites, 7 C&CC, 2 CLs, 1 private in UK the rest were abroad, a mix of sites and Aires.  Must do better next year.

Had a series of Messages from largest group of family over there in Cambridgeshire and all seems to  be A ) centred on 3-year old ggnephew  B) and passing thoughts back and to amongst those still here in Cheshire.

Latest message said that t'infant was eventually parted from new toys and taken, kicking and squealing off to bed, then, after a few tickles and giggles, in three minutes a pair of closed eyes and the last toy dropped, quietly, onto the bed ~~ Probably the fastest Shut~Down possible short of a mains failure !!

I wonder just how much he will remember by breakfast time  laughing

Certainly a few Parents, Grand Parents  will be glad of a little shut~eye later on.

Do so hope all you out there have had as good a day as them

    Sweet dreams

The "Folly Inn" is a favourite rally spot for my sailing club. Was there any dancing on the tables, Triky?

Well, we had a Christmas Day we're not going to forget for a long time! It all started when I was awakened by the sound of our dear Cockapoo being sick all over the bedroom carpet - who then, very kindly went into the study and did the same again.  So, after dragging the heavy Vax carpet cleaner up the stairs, there was I, at 6.30 in the morning - still in dressing gown and slippers, cleaning carpets.  That was just the beginning.

Took her for her usual walk on the beach as she seemed absolutely fine in herself and fed her when I got back - but only a tiny amount, so as not to tempt providence too much.  She promptly delivered that back within half an hour.  Right - no food for the rest of the day but after our late lunch, she seemed absolutely fine and I rescinded and gave her a spoonful of plain boiled rice - in accordance with all the advice on the 'net.  That was my next mistake because that stayed inside her for less than a couple of hours.  Even more carpet cleaning to do!

Definite starvation was the policy then, but just before midnight, having nothing inside her, she was sick again - but this time with a large amount of blood.  That was when the real concern happened and I rang the emergency vet which is situated in Hull - about 45 minutes drive away.  They advised that I really should bring her in but having had a few drinks as one does on Christmas Day - I told them that unless I could find a taxi willing to transport a sickly dog into Hull, it would have to wait.  Needless to say, everyone one of 6 taxi firms advertising 24 hour cover, I rang, failed to answer.  Not surprising really at 0030 on Boxing Day.

I was awake (not that I really went to sleep) at 4am and left the house with her at 5 and arrived at the Vet's just before 6.  Examination, blood tests, X-rays  and medication (and an anticipated £1500 bill!) revealed nothing sinister other than an inflamed stomach lining which was a big relief since I had convinced myself she had more than likely swallowed a fishing hook on the beach.

She is, however, severely dehydrated and so they have kept her in the doggy 'hospital' on a drip (how do they do that with a dog?) and we have to go and pick her up tonight.

As I said, a Christmas day we won't forget for a long timeundecided

    Don't we love 'emsmile

Hope everyone had a good day yesterday and Santa fulfilled your wishes! We were lucky with the weather considering what had been forecast and spent most of the day outdoors.  smile

Today is also looking good - after our usual walk across the dunes we headed down to Perranporth beach where a few hundred brave souls took part in the annual Boxing Day "swim" though it looked like standing in the sea was a more accurate description (wetsuits are strictly banned! surprised) . Still, rather them than us, we were there purely in a spectating capacity! laughing

Reading all your Christmas stories! Goodness what a mix of tales. Ours was a total flop, Covid struck, we provided a meals on wheels service instead, a sort of camp kitchen with gravy on the side....onwards and upwards folks...wink

Oh dear....hope all those who were/are poorly will soon recover!

We have had a very  nice Christmas.   Prepared the required food in the morning, after a very light breakfast of tea and one slice of toast, then packed up all our contributions and presents, and left home about 11.20.

Roads were actually busier than we had expected, but not overly so, so we arrived at DS house at exactly 12.00.    Food contributions handed over in our mains plugable coolbox (their  fridge space is tight) and we went to relax with the grandchildren.

One guest had called off as not feeling great, so only 8 of us for lunch.

Everything was excellent, OH's prawn cocktail sauce was delicious, and the M&S salmon platter, which was all eaten, as was the rest of the meal.

Afterwards we opened presents, and later had coffee and shortbread sent by DD.  There were some left overs, so we came home with some bits and pieces.

We had agreed to go to DD's on our way home to open our presents as their delivery had been delayed, so we set out to be at their place around 19.00.   Weather was foul.....heavy rain then sleet......and DD rang to ask if we could come past the in laws to pick up the children so they would not get soaked walking home.

That went OK, so we got to open  presents and see all their presents.  Left to come home around 21.00, house was nice and warm.   In bed by midnight after a lovely day

Today has been a lazy day, not up till after 09.00, tea and toast for breakfast.   Some wet snow mid morning, but it soon melted.  Light lunch of tomato soup with crusty rolls, followed by coffee with DD's Yule Log.

This afternoon I assembled the last cupboard for the new bathroom, so now able to work out how to cut all the worktop pieces.   Correct bits for shower enclosure will come after New Year.

No plans for tomorrow, but on the 28th we have to be at the Guide Hall for the installation of a new gas boiler.  I also have 3 radiators to replace, and all the TRVs, so plenty to keep me busy.

R&R we hope that your dog recovers fully, it's not pleasant in any way when ones pet is ill. Fingers crossed that she is much improved when you collect her tomorrow.

There are lots of brave swimmers out there taking a dip at this time of year, Moulesy, not something that has ever taken my fancy.

Hope all those that have been affected one way or another by illness have been able to enjoy some of their time over the last few days.

We had a much better day today, although we did wake to find the car windscreen covered in ice. We did one of our regular circular walks around Stand Wood above Chatsworth. Plenty of groups out enjoying the good weather.

We now have an invitation from DD to join them for a meal on New Year's Day.  We offered to contribute a large beef roast joint we have in the freezer, but apparently they are planning a steak pie.

Now, I have only lived in Scotland for some 50+ years, and OH 73+ years, but we have never realised that steak pie is apparently now mandatory here for New Year !

We have always either had turkey again, or roast beef.......where have we gone wrong?

Can any Scots shed any light on this?

Is it maybe a central/southern Scotland thing?

OH is from Aberdeen and it was/is  certainly not a tradition in her family.

As far as we can make out, it has only been promoted around here (Glasgow) in the last 10 or so years.

And we have not had one before now, or soon!

Maybe  we are just  not  moving in the correct circles!

Well, we're back from our first Christmas Day away, ever!  Alas, not a caravan break....  Our youngest daughter, (who did her degree in photography!!!) is now training as a chef and was working Christmas Day.  The hotel offered us a dog friendly room and Christmas lunch at a discounted price (which our daughter paid for as a part Christmas gift!

After the really busy December, it was quite nice not to have to cook and wash up on Christmas Day, and the hotel and meal was grreat, although it felt really different.  Would we do it again???  I really don't know...  😃😃  It felt really odd!!  😃😃
